"Oh, somewhere deep inside of these bones, and emptiness began to grow. There's something out there, far from my home, a longing that I've never known." The song was haunting in that deep baritone, and she missed it as it trailed off. She nearly jumped out of her skin when Batman appeared in all his dark glory beside her in the doorway.
They were both silent as he swept away, cloak fluttering at his heels. Artemis felt vaguely embarrassed as she turned to enter the room, but paused when a baritone floated after her. "He can't sleep when he's hurt without it."

By some mutual consensus the team had ended up dragging all of their mattresses and blankets and pillows into the living room. Their last mission had been the worst by far, and a run in with a Kryptonite bearing maniac had left all of them broken, mentally and physically. Everyone looked up as Batman leaned in to look at them. Robin called him back as he moved away, giving his mentor the best pleading look he could from behind his mask.
"Please! We... we can't sleep." Artemis piped up, curling her broken arm and hand around her pillow as best she could. Robin's pout shifted to a grin when Batman heaved a sigh and dimmed the lights, moving to sit in the armchair that Kaldur favoured. The team relaxed almost as one as a smooth baritone flowed over them, tugging at their eyelids and dragging them down. Robin smiled at Artemis before they both drifted off into sleep.

When the team left individually with their mentors the next morning, each was humming the same tune with almost relaxed expressions. Ollie almost jumped when Artemis started singing, the others joining in as they left. The mentors traded confused looks but remained silent when they saw the song pick their kids' spirits up.
"Am I blue? Am I blue? Ain't these tears in my eyes, telling you?" M'gann smiled and twirled into the zeta-transporter. Kaldur smiled as he left too, still singing in Atlantean. Wally saluted them with a grin as he left. Ollie sent Artemis on ahead, both his and Clark's gaze turning to where Batman stood waiting to leave with Robin and Conner, the newest edition to the Batfamliy apparently
"Where on Earth did they learn that song?" Clark asked with a sly smile. Batman shouldered past him with a glare, his boys on his heels smiling and still humming.
"How should I know? I loathe that song."
