Dick leaned in even closer to the window to try and get a better look at the white blur. His breathing became shallower as he waited in anticipation for something to happen. Finally, the blur moved as it seemed to be picking itself up off of the ground. After stumbling around for a little bit, it finally stood up, causing Dick's eyes to widen as he saw the unmistakable figure of a boy with black hair. Before he had the time to take another breath, the boy disappeared into the woods.
Dick quickly bolted from his spot next to the window and grabbed his coat as he left his room. He leaped acrobatically down the stairs in just a few bounds before rolling on the ground and getting back up into a full sprint towards the door. "Young master, where are you going?" Dick heard Alfred ask as he rounded a corner and almost crashed into the butler.
"Outside," he replied as he ran down the hall, barely hearing Alfred's warning to be careful. As soon as he was outside Dick glided down the patio steps, jumped over a row of flowers, and ran as fast as he could across the grass field.
Once he was at the woods, he stopped. While taking a few deep breaths, Dick scanned the area, hoping to find a sign that the boy was still around. “Hello?” Dick called out. After a few moments had passed and there was still no response, he called out again, “Hello?” Once again he was greeted with nothing but the gentle rustle of the leaves in the wind. Dick stared into the woods, wondering if he should try to find the boy. “Please be here,” Dick finally mumbled before stepping into the treeline.
He walked for what seemed like hours, looking behind every tree that the boy could hind behind. The longer he was looking, the more he felt like he was alone in the woods. Once again, he could feel the emptiness looming over him, as if it was moving in the branches of the trees. He looked up to the tree tops, “Go Away!” he shouted in a moment of defiance. He couldn’t see the emptiness, but he could feel it move from tree branch to tree branch. Suddenly, the powerful weight of the emptiness fell onto his shoulders, causing him bring his arms around his torso.
At that moment, Dick heard the trees rustle before the white blur jumped from the trees towards the emptiness before landing right next to him. He immediately stared up at the taller, dark haired boy. “Leave him alone,” the boy warned as he clenched his fists and stared towards where the emptiness was. Dick felt his heart jump to his throat while he simply continued to stare at the boy who was fighting away the emptiness. He could feel the emptiness’s anger as it slowly moved away from the boy and him until it was completely gone. His shoulders finally slumped in relaxation as a wide grin appeared on his face.
Dick then turned towards the boy, who turned towards him after a few moments. “Hi,” Dick greeted as he stared into the bright blue eyes of the boy; the boy who had scared away the emptiness.
“Hi,” the boy replied shyly while returning the stare before he turned away to look at the ground with a small red tint on his cheeks.
