It was easy to find the audio files on the computer and almost just as easy to bypass Batman’s security measures to keep them away from Dick. But Dick was just a little better at this, just a little. He had shoved his siblings out of the cave and put on his headphones to listen.
The particular file he opened didn’t have people speaking, but it was far from silent. There was the sound of something being thrown around, the heaviness of wood breaking, shuffling, then the sound of someone being hit, and finally sobbing and groans of pain in an all too familiar voice.
Dick rushed for the bathroom and spent the next hour throwing up and dry heaving.

Exiting his school, Dick walked towards the car waiting for him and pulled out his phone to find that he had five missed calls from Roy. Running to the car and getting in, Dick ignored Alfred and Damian, Cass and Stephanie who were all in the car already, done with their day of kindergarten and preschool. Tim and Jason wouldn’t be off from school for another half hour. He glared at them when they tried to get his attention and listened to all five messages that Roy left him.
“Fuck, Grayson, answer your phone, NOW!”
“Damn it, cut class or something and call me back! Or better yet, get to Star City!”
“Shit, goddamn it, I think … I know I saw him. He was right outside of Dinah’s house, trying to look in. I … I went to the window and he must have saw me and he bolted. Fuck, fuck, I fucked up, oh god he was so close, so close …”
“The Flash and the first Flash, Jay, are trying to find him. I think Superman and Superboy went too. Kaldur’s here with me, but I … he’d want you here too.”
“Answer … just answer your goddamn phone. I saw him or I’m going fucking crazy. No, I saw him and he … he looked so pale, so thin … Goddamn it, Dick, I’m sorry I fucked up, goddamn …”
Dick didn’t call back, but Robin was in Star City within half an hour. Red Arrow and Aqualad were gone, but Black Canary was there waiting for him. They hit the pavement right away, there was a very small chance that he was still within the city, but they would search anyway.
--
Robin shared the information with the team at Mount Justice, the reason why their friend had left. No one spoke. But when Conner destroyed the living room, no one tried to stop him, because that’s what they all wanted to do too. They decided to draw the line when Conner tried to go to Central City and restrained him. They had to do the same thing with Roy when Kaldur told him.

“Big brother! Big brother! Big brother!” Stephanie was jumping up and down on his bed. “Get up! Get up! Get up!”
Dick stumbled out of his bed and let himself be led out of the manor in the middle of the night by his sister. Tim and Jason were waiting for them and they went to right outside of the property. There was a little table setup with an empty plate and crumpled on the ground was an unconscious teenager.
Dick’s jaw dropped open. “Son of a bitch.”
“It worked!” Stephanie threw up her arms in victory. “Speedster bait worked!”

After the first month, Dick had a dream that Wally was sitting on his bed, talking to him at a mile per second with hands waving around all over the place. Wally was also eating in the bed, getting crumbs everywhere, but the speedster promised to clean them up. Dick reached up and touched Wally’s face and the speedster stopped talking.
“I’m glad you’re home, Wally,” he whispered to his friend.
Wally frowned. “I’m not.”
Dick woke up to an empty bed. His heart ached terribly at the absence of crumbs.

I love the writing style, and the switch from present to past and back worked beautifully.
