One of the Healers went very still and asked her to think that a little louder.M’gann was so used to doing as she was told, that she didn’t think twice about the shame-feel of Mother cracking her face against the wall until her nose was face and blood ran down her front. M’gann had tried to stop Mother from doing it again with her good hand. Mother hadn’t liked that. She pulled M’gann by her hair into the corner and kicked her for a while. M’gann should have known better.
The Healer turned paled to a mint green and then carefully hooked one of his fingers with one of M’gann. “I-” he started, and then stopped. He pulled his thoughts into his head so small, M’gann couldn’t feel them. When he finally did speak, his voice sounded craked and strange. “You’re allowed. You are always allowed. You’re not going to go back to the corner, I promise.”
M’gaqnn didn’t believe him at all until J’onn came.

Earth foods were delicious. M’gann tried to make Enchiladas this time, sneaking in the extra supplements Uncle J’onn gave her into the cheese. Nifty little amino acids that would help strengthen her and Superboy’s photosynthetic cells. Wally swore that it made the cheese taste a little off but she was working on a way to make it better.
Rather than call Superboy to dinner, she left the food in the oven on low so it would be just right when he came back from playing with Rolly. In the meanwhile, she turned on the small TV in the ktichen and watched Wendy the Werewolf Stalker reruns until “Hello, Megan!” came on TV.
Sure enough, even though she felt a little annoyed and frsutrated at Superboy’s tardiness (she made dinner every night at eight unless a mission happened. Is a little attention too much to ask?), it all melted away when her favorite soap came on TV.
Superboy eventually comes back in, clothes sweatsoaked but M’gann swat her hand in his direction. “Food’s in the oven. Use gloves.”
“You aren’t going to take it-”
“Shhh!” She hissed. “They haven’t done a rerun of episode four in forever.” She doesn’t take her eyes off the TV until the commercial break. She turned around to see Superboy looking confused and thoughtful while holding a sauce smeared plate.
“She looks like you. The girl in the television.” He said, and then looked away from her, hunching his shoulders. “It was a little weird.”
M’gann leaned over the sink to check her reflection. Sure enough, her freckles had still translated to a brown splatter across her nose. “Not close enough.” She mumbled, then in an attempt to change the topic she added, “How’s the food?”
“Fine,” he added. For once he didn’t seem to radiate rage. Looking, a little pleased. “Good, even.”
M’gann perked right back up. “Really?” she asked grinning. When he nodded, she pumped her fight in the air and laughed.
