The Boy Wonder stepped through the portal and sighed. It had been a long night. Two-Face’s assault on the Drake family had led to several hours of fighting between Batman, Robin, The GCPD and a seemingly endless supply of the Rogues goons. Finally after what had felt like days, the leader himself had been captured, leaving Batman with a dislocated shoulder and several policemen needing to go to hospital. Oh, and a very worried set of parents.
Being on baby-sitting duty for adults was never enjoyable and the Drakes had been worse, systematically trying to drive Robin up the wall with their worries as the clean up began and Commissioner Gordon tried to take their statements. But finally Robin had the all clear to bring little Timmy home to his parents. That is, if he could find the toddler in the seemingly endless halls of Mt Justice.
The whole mountain was quiet, the lights dimmed when Wally and Artemis left to go home several hours ago.
That was why the flickering light was noticeable. It was coming from the joint Living Room/Kitchen.
Robin shook his head. Superboy must have been watching the static again and forgot to switch the tv off.
Quietly, the thirteen year old walked to the door and looked in. The kitchen was un-surprisingly a mess. Megan may have been mastering the art of cooking, but she was yet to figure out how to was dishes. Across the kitchen, Robin could see the tv flicker. As he had guessed, the screen showed nothing but static. Shaking his head slightly, the Boy Wonder entered the room, carefully avoiding the kitchen.
Reaching the tv, he turned, scanning the floor for the remote. He froze, his eyes falling on the figure on the couch.
According to both Wally and Megan, Superboy had been having trouble with the concept of the bed, seeming to prefer the tight confines of his closet. But now Robin knew different. The Boy of Steel had fallen asleep on the couch, his head resting on the arm rest, one arm draped over the edge. The other hand was resting on a bundle on his chest.
Stepping closer to see better in the dim light, Robin finally made out the shape of the baby. Timmy was asleep against Superboy’s chest, his thumb in his mouth as Superboy’s hand held him in place.
Robin couldn’t fight the smile. Looking away from the adorable sight, the boy quickly glanced around the room, his eyes finally falling on the old quilt Wally had brought in once. Picking it up, he carefully draped it over the sleeping pair.
Jack Drake had taken a blow to the head and would be in hospital for the rest of the night. In Robins mind, the parents could use some more time off from looking after their baby. Besides, Robin really needed to find a camera.
