Kid Flash - uniform torn and a shallow gash along his forearm - tried not to squirm under the infamous batglare. However, as it was his first time facing the wrath of Batman he pretty much failed. The thirteen year old wondered how Robin handled it.
The thought of his friend caused another sting of guilt. Robin was currently being stitched up in another room by a man that appeared to be Batman’s butler.
“I allowed you in Gotham under very specific rules, and you broke them. It almost cost both of your lives.”
There was a shifting of dark fabric as Batman moved closer. Instinctively Kid Flash flinched. Batman’s frown deepened.
“Batman.”
Kid blinked as the Flash suddenly appeared at his side, the hero’s tone one of warning.
The Dark Knight stepped back from Kid and turned to his uncle. They seemed to be having a silent conversation. Finally Kid Flash was included again.
“Go to the infirmary. Alfred will clean and bandage that cut once he’s done with Robin.”
“It’s no big deal. It’s already healing”, the young speedster insisted.
Batman glared at him again. Kid Flash would have withered under it if not for the Flash’s hand on his shoulder.
“Go on.”
He did as his uncle said and was gone in a blur, leaving the two adults behind.
“How wise is it to let him stay with his parents”, Batman stated, “It wouldn’t be hard to hide signs of abuse.”
It really shouldn’t have surprised the Flash that Batman knew, despite the fact no legal charges had been made against the Wests.
“They’ve worked hard to overcome their issues. Wally’s supposed to tell us if one of them hits him again, and even if he doesn’t Iris and I know the signs now.”
“And surveillance tapes?”
The Flash was quick to answer.
“Would ease my mind”, the speedster’s eyes then narrowed, “You already have the house bugged, don’t you?”
Batman’s lips resembled a smile.
“Not me.”
This time the Flash smiled. His nephew had made a great, if slightly paranoid, friend.
4 - Superboy
When Wally walked into the training room, Superboy was pounding the punching bag into the ground. Wally correctly guessed it had something to do with his recent trip to Metropolis. Supey didn’t know it but Wally really empathized with him.
“Chill, Supey. What did the punching bag ever do to you?”
The clone stopped to glare over at the speedster. Wally was glad that Supey hadn’t developed laser vision, yet. Superboy then stood up turning away from Wally.
“Seriously”, Wally continued, “Want to talk about it?”
“No! I’m fine!”
Superboy shouted much louder than necessary, causing the redhead to wince.
“Okay, okay”, Wally waved off as he began to walk away, “Just trying to help.”
Superboy’s blue eyes softened at the last word. Wally was being a good friend; he had been doing so since Cadmus. The clone quickly caught up to Wally, who was only meandering, and reached out for the other boy’s shoulder.
Immediately Wally’s whole body tensed, and then he was just gone. Superboy heard a thundering heartbeat and turned his head to see Wally with his back against the wall opposite of Superboy. The speedster’s green eyes were wide with panic.
The clone looked from Wally to his hand, frowning in confusion.
“Did I use too much strength?”
Wally straightened back up, a smile sliding back on his face. It seemed a little forced the Superboy.
“No. You just startled me.”
Superboy nodded. However, something about this was still weird. He’d have to ask Robin about it later.
