Kaldur snorted. “Yes. And you had better be after that question.”
“Bi,” Roy admitted. “What are you doing tomorrow night?”
It was with a wince and a sigh that Kadlur motioned for them to leave the store. They walked out in silence and found a place next to the wall of the shop to dump their bags. As soon as his hands were free, Kaldur turned to Roy with a serious expression.
“I really like you, Roy, but before we go any further you should know something.” Roy looked a bit surprised but nodded, motioning for Kaldur to continue. “I have a son. An adopted son. I kind of found him when he a few months old and we grew attached.” He sighed. “I am single and I like you a lot, I would like to take this further but I cannot let you go on without knowing about Conner. I love him very much.”
For a while, Roy was silent and Kaldur was sure he had blown it. But just as he was about to make an exit with at least some of his dignity intact, Roy nodded and finally answered. “Well, if we’re confessing I have something to tell you too... My ex-girlfriend is pregnant.” And well, that shut Kaldur up. “She doesn’t want the kid but I... I know what it’s like to be in care and I don’t want my kid to go through life thinking their dad didn’t want them. So in six months or so I’m going to be a dad.”
“Wow. Ok, I was... not expecting that.” Kaldur said and, gods, was this how people felt when he told them about Conner? If it was, he felt bad about feeling so awkward while waiting for their reaction. It was really hard to think of something to say.
Roy took a step closer to him. “I’d still really like to take you out tomorrow, to get to know you and maybe a talk about this?” He huffed out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through his short hair. “I mean, it’s only one date, right?”
Yes, Kaldur thought, but it could lead to others, making a very confusing relationship... But if he didn’t take this chance, he knew he’d regret it. How often do you meet a gay single dad in your supermarket after all? “So where are you taking me?”
I have a bad feeling this is going to be another loooong fill for me XD Ohwell~

It took Kaldur a good two hours to get home, unpack his shopping and tidy the mess he had left in the kitchen before leaving for an early shift at work that morning. He gave himself half an hour to sit down before he shoved his shoes back on and walked down the block to pick up Conner from Wally’s. Kaldur and Wally had met at the gym, just after Kaldur had moved to Central, around three years ago now, then they had met again on the street between their two flats. He was just coming back from signing the last form, making Conner legally his, and Wally was the first person he was able to introduce the baby to as his son. Wally was immediately cooing down at the baby, who gave a small giggle, the first laugh Kaldur had heard from him. Kaldur had already promised the title of god-father to his friend Garth, but Wally was definitely the favourite uncle.
Kaldur fumbled with the spare key Wally had given him as he reached the man’s door. Since Wally was being tutored by his uncle and only had a part-time job, he often baby-sat for Kaldur and had given him a key for ease of access (Kaldur suspected it was also to tease Dick, Wally’s boyfriend, but that was nothing to do with him). Shutting the door behind him, he heard a tiny gasp of delight, followed by an older-sounding mock gasp, and barely had time to shrug his coat off before a small boy came running into his open arms.
Conner squealed as Kaldur picked him up, throwing him up and catching him with ease. “Did you miss me, Con?”
The boy nodded, pressing his small hands to Kaldur’s cheeks and smearing a kiss to the corner of his lips. “Miss me?” He asked, looking at Kaldur with serious eyes.
Kaldur smiled. “Always. Where have you left Uncle Wally?”
“Toilet! Uncle Wally washed my face, see?”
“Hmmm...” Kaldur pretended to peer at the boy’s face. “Yes, you are clean. Did he do behind your ears?”
Conner rolled his eyes and wiggled. “No, mama, washing ears is for bath-time.”
Kaldur sighed as he let Conner slip down to the ground, walking off towards the bathroom where Wally was probably waiting to jump out at him. “How many times, Conner, you do not call me mama.” But the boy ignored him and, seconds later, there was a loud ‘Boo!’ from the bathroom and the boy screamed in joy. Kaldur shook his head and headed into the kitchen, finding a forgotten bag of crisps and munching on them as he listened to footsteps coming into the room. Glancing over his shoulder, he smiled as he saw Wally with Conner thrown over his shoulder.
“Hey Kal. Have you seen Conner? He’s disappeared!”
Face to Wally’s back, Conner’s giggle was muffled. “I’m here!” He sang out, laughing more when Wally turned sharply, swinging him around.
“Where?”
Conner fidgeted till he could get an arm up enough to pat Wally’s head. “Here, Uncle Wally!”
Wally pulled the boy off his shoulder. “Ah! There you are! Hey, why don’t you go finish your colouring while your daddy and I talk?”
“Mmmmm, Ok.” And once again, the four-year-old was on the floor, wondering over to the table in the jointed- sitting room, set up with crayons and paper. Once he was settled, the two men sat down at the kitchen table, able to talk and keep an eye on the boy.
“Good day?” Wally asked, stealing the bag from him. Kaldur finished his mouthful slowly.

Wally cocked his head. “Sure, of course. But why? Extra hours?”
“No...” Kaldur flushed and bit his lip, smiling nervously. “I kind of have a date...”
“A date?!” Wally cried and Kaldur shushed him. “With who?!” He said, quieter. Kaldur briefly outlined the man he had met in the store while Wally listened with a rare quietness. “Are you gonna tell Con?”
Kaldur shrugged. “I have never kept secrets from him. He will not know exactly what it means anyway... just that I will be out with a friend.”
“What friend?”
Both men looked down to see Conner frowning up at them, clutching sheets of paper. Kaldur smiled at him, leaning down to pick the boy up and settle him on his lap. “Uncle Wally and Uncle Dick are going to pick you up tomorrow after school, yes?” Conner nodded. “But I will be back late tomorrow night.”
“...With your friend.” At Kaldur’s nod, Conner narrowed his blue eyes. “You’ll be back to tuck me in, won’t you?!”
Kaldur ran a hand through his hair, the fringe sticking up like always. “Yes, I will. It is only dinner, Conner.”
Conner seemed to think this through, but didn’t reply; instead he took a minute to spread his pictures over the table. “I drew pictures.” He stated.
Grinning widely, Wally looked over them, cooing and making amazed sounds as Conner explained each one carefully. Kaldur pressed a kiss to the boy’s dark hair.
“You still have a lot of space on your wall for plenty of pictures.”
Conner nodded. He enjoyed drawing, more than talking or playing, though he did enjoy a good wrestle and tickle with his Uncle Wally and his Auntie Artemis. “Can we put them up?”
“After dinner... Which we should go and get ready now. You have school in the morning.” Conner nodded and walked off to get his things.

Also, it's Kaldur-centric, and we don't have anywhere near enough of those, and I really like seeing Wally and Kal interacting. :3
