Not a Mask Part 2 anonymous May 8 2011, 20:21:55 UTC
The second time it happens is about a year later. He's been to a few parties with Bruce before this and he's figured out that most the time Bruce only acts drunk. Bruce acting drunk is only a little embarrassing and it's usually in front of a lot of rich people Dick doesn't really care about.

Dick can totally tell the difference by now too. He's been on the streets as Robin a few times already and he's getting a lot better at noticing things.

"Dickie! Dickie come over here and meet Amanda!" That's the first clue right there. When Bruce fakes being drunk he never gets the ladies names right. Dick thinks he just likes to see how many names he can come up with in a night. He can't really blame him either, these things are boring.

Bruce swings his arm around and lands a hand in Dicks hair as he makes his way over.

"Look at my little boy, isn't he just wonderful!"

Amanda smiles at him. "He's absolutely adorable Brucie."

Dick glares a little bit at Bruce. Tomorrow morning Dick is going to wake Bruce up by jumping on the bed. Maybe he'll even miss the bed a bit. He's nine years old. He is not adorable.

"Did you know," asked Bruce, "that he kissed a girl at school yesterday! On the lips! I just barely got him and he just keeps on growing up!"

"That's so precious!"

Alfred would help him right? Or at least let him hide behind his coat tails after he got his revenge?

"It's not like it was my first kiss." Dick rolls his eyes. He'd kissed girls plenty of times before at the circus.

"Dick," Bruce's eyes are completely serious but the slight sway of his body makes it almost comical, "do we need to have a talk? Because if you really like a lady, like Amanda here, I know there are other things you might want to do besides kiss and,"

"Alfred!" Dick interrupts, half prayer and half excuse, "I hear Alfred calling. It must be past my bed time! gotta go!"

He scurries off out of the party and he can hear Bruce's parting remark. "But you don't have to go to bed until ten tonight."

He ends up getting The Talk the next day but at least it's not in the middle of a crowded ballroom.
