An attitude like, "My dad hits me? Gimme ten minutes, I'll be back on my feet and ready to take my frustrations out on villains. Not allowed to eat? Fine, I'll just GRAB something while no one's watching. Is it slowly getting worse? Doesn't matter. I'll survive, and I don't NEED anyone's help."
Bonus points if the team slowly comes to realize he's surprisingly indifferent to other people getting hurt (after all, even though he and the other sidekicks were friends pre-Episode 1, I don't think they've ever actively been in a team together, from the way they said "never before have all four sidekicks been at the same place at the same time" or something, I can't remember the exact words...) because he thinks people should just be able to endure some things, and they think he's pretty cold.
Extra bonus if Wally does have some sentimental moments, because he's not actually cold, just thick-skinned and isn't going to cry about it.

This isn't meant to be a stab at whump!Wally fics, because I kinda totally love them, I'm just in the mood for something else right now.

Your arm is too short to box with god.
Something about the Cherry Poppin' Daddies makes you feel like you can endure and overcome.
