More Useful Than You'd Think 2/2

Two and some years later, Wally’s ransacking Mount Justice trying to find the damn thing because Luthor somehow turned Superboy evil, somehow made him forget, and he won’t believe them when they say they’re his friends, and it’s all gone so wrong what is happening??

Finally, he pulls it out, and then he’s back in what used to be the outskirts of Metropolis’ downtown core where his teammates are getting their asses kicked by the sixth, and holy shit when did Superboy learn to shoot lasers out of his eyes! That’s not supposed to happen for another three months!

“Connor!” he shouts, and fuck their secret identities, it’s not like there’s anyone but them in the area anyway. He throws the book, and Superboy catches it by instinct. His eyebrows scrunch up and he flips through the pages while the rest of Young Justice hangs back.

“... what is this?” he asks, eventually, reaching the end and then turning back to the beginning where the This Book Belongs to has been filled in with Superboy Connor. He flips through the pages more slowly, his frown deepening as he lingers over the pictures.

“We’re your friends, Connor,” M’gann says, desperately. “We have been for a long time.”

“We mentioned that, didn’t we?” Artemis asks sarcastically, and Robin jumps in with, “We totally did.”

“I-“ Connor says, and lets the book fall to the ground while his hands fly up to clutch his head. “I- I don’t... I remember!” he gasps, and stares at them, and the destruction around them, and back at them with the same kind of despair he used to get on his face whenever Superman got brought up.

They crowd around him, reassuring - “Hey, it’ll be okay” “It’s not your fault; we know you’d never do anything like this by choice” “We’ll fix this. I promise” “Come on, let’s get back; Superman’s going to be frantic." - and Wally rushes home, and rushes back to snap a photo.

With Connor watching he puts the photo in the back and labels it Baby’s First Traumatic Experience, since Baby’s First Mindcontrol Experience is taken up by a picture of a shoulder G-nome.

“Dude, Con,” he says. “It happens to all of us at some point,” which by some luck actually makes a difference. So what if Connor isn't a baby anymore? They'll stick around until he runs out firsts... until doesn't need them anymore. (Like, say, never.)

OMG it's wonderful. Better than I could have expected. And so soon! I love it. The laser eyes that come three months early. Wally and Artemis being "teen parents". It's perfect. More useful than you think is right.

THIS WAS PERFECT OH MY GOD D: The bit with the mug being Superboy's alone, the Easter bit and Baby's first friend as Dubbilex--ALL AMAZING.
Also, I LOL at the fact someone mistook Wally and Artemis as teenage parents XD
