Then the fighting had started, and he thought the tall one, Jason, had been the scariest but then Richard-he'd probably never be able to even think of him as casually as 'Dick'-broke it up, and he did it easily, and without causing significant or maybe any damage at all to his brothers. Richard was the scariest, easily: he was clearly a better fighter than his brothers, and able to command them without much effort, and he wasn't even related to them by blood.
They were all adopted. Colin's mind kept whirring back to that fact. Their relationships with each other weren't perfect, they fought and sniped at each other, but they were a family.
Colin had been in and out of foster homes some with biological children, some where he was alone, and some with other adopted children, but it always felt off to him, like he wasn't wanted, didn't belong, that the adults, or other children didn't really want him there. He always reacted the same way: he ran, and then he really wasn't wanted. Who wanted a child who ran away? They took him in and then he made them look bad by running.
He'd gotten older and had a long adoption history, so parents assumed he was trouble and skipped over him, he had given up on ever being adopted. Every family that came in was just another to give him hope only to abandon him, to look the other way, to pick another less troublesome child.
Damian's family though was made of adopted children and it was grew clearer to him as he visited that they loved each other, and worked to make Colin feel welcomed: small peeks of Jason or being led somewhere by the little girl, who's name escaped Colin, when he got lost and was too embarrassed to say it. The way Tim made himself available in a friendly way, though Damian didn't seem to like that very much for some reason something about Tim being a 'thief'. Richard who always peeked in on them during lulls in action, sometimes with snacks, usually whenever one of them idly mentioned going to get some now that Colin thought about.
The head of the household Bruce Wayne was taciturn, and strict, and honestly very scary. Yet, sometimes, Colin caught some glimpses of his love for his family as well, the most obvious was how Alfred seemed to have a standing order to drop anything Bruce asked him to do if the children needed him for something, a gesture that had apparently been extended to Colin at some point.
All this considered Colin couldn't understand why Damian insisted they eat out from now on. When he'd asked Damian had responded in that way that told Colin he was embarrassed; "I just want to spend some time out of the house, and you might know some good places to eat." Colin didn't know why Damian hadn't just said he wanted some alone time with him on the town, but he also knew better than to ask.

Wally watched amazed as Damian actually laughed at some joke the red-head had told him. They had followed them to some carnival a couple cities away from Gotham. "He's laughing, someone made your little brother laugh and act his age. Dick I don't-I c-I can't, I can't, I don't, this is-."
Dick nodded sagely. "Take your time. This is a big moment."
A car honked in the distance while Dick waited for Wally to finish his thought.
"I can't deal with the reality before me. Also, I could use some cotton candy, huh, Dick, huh?"
Dick rolled his eyes. "And you can't pay for it yourself because?"
"Because you dragged me here, and I didn't bring my wallet."
Dick sighed; "what colour?"
----
Dick watched amused as Damian acted his age, not pretending to be polite and mature to win over some important adult, or being surly and territorial. He was just like any other kid, well discounting how Damian didn't know what all the attractions, and food were and got all scowly when Colin had to explain something to him, hanging out with his best friend. "Must be making you really happy." Chirped Wally from his side causing Dick to stop paying so much attention to his littlest brother.
"What?"
"Seeing Damian acting like his age instead of like...like Damian."
"He's become his own adjective? Huh. Is 'ad' a prefix?"
"No."
"You sure?"
"Yes, Dick I'm sure 'ad' isn't a prefix."
"Than what about advance?"
"It's just a word Dick." Wally usually loved Dick's obsession with wordplay, hearing him suss out the meanings and work on his own unique vocabulary, but it could be a little whelming at times. That unique vocabulary was however a part of his best friend, a part that usually brought a soft smile to his friend's face. And therefore he never told Dick that 'whelmed' meant something close to 'overwhelmed' or that 'aster' was a predominantly purple fall bloom of the Asteraceae family of flowering plants.
Dick hummed in contemplation. Wally could just hear him murmuring a list of words that began with 'ad'. They continued following the pair and Wally slowly got used to seeing Damian doing things like fist-bumping, and hitting someone playfully in the shoulder. "Guess it isn't, not many words with 'ad' at the start have the change in meaning as with 'advance'."
Wally chuckled and slipped an arm around Dick's shoulder bringing him close. "Yep. Aren't you glad I made you realize that before you made an ass of yourself you should thank me. With candy apples and caramel corn, and more cotton candy, and, and, and-"
"Can't I just find you some normal apples? I think the cotton candy alone was too much sugar for you, Kid Stomach." Dick wriggled out of his grasp and lightly punched him on the arm.
"Yeah, sure, normal apples work to they're full of natural sugar, the energy they produce is greater in total than the temporary easily burned off energy that comes from manufactured glucose, like in sweets." Dick was giving him an odd look. "What?"
"I like it when you talk like that, it's easy to forget you recreated that experiment, with how you normally act. Oh, hot dogs okay?"
"Sure." Wally nodded feeling quite happy when Dick complemented him in that small sincere voice he always felt great, and the promise of hot dogs and other junk food to fill his face with didn't hurt either.

There were small differences but Damian and Colin were isometric to himself and Wally. It was also easy to see from an outsiders view that Colin and Damian liked each other as more than friends. It was still awkward and innocent, but it was clear to Dick at least that his younger brother-and a small part of himself wondered if it was a big brother's instinct that clued him in-had a crush on his red-head.
What did that mean for him and Wally? Well he couldn't say he didn't enjoy Wally's presence, and physically he was quite handsome, and if Damian and Colin were on a date then so were he and Wally. The fact that he wasn't opposed to that thought really drove home the obvious: he had been dating Wally for awhile now, and had just completely missed it. The obvious still brought Dick to a standstill
Wally turned to face him; "something wrong?" His emerald eyes showed his confusion clear as day, apparently Wally hadn't figured it out, well Dick'd tell him some day, maybe on the day of their wedding or something.
For now he just smirked and grabbed Wally's hand. "Come on, slowpoke we'll lose 'em if we keep standing around."
"Wha-? You're the one who stopped dick."
Dick just chuckled. "Sure sure, just walk dear"
"What?" Wally sounded confused but Dick didn't miss how he hadn't pulled their hands apart despite walking side-by side.

Damian looked up and up at the spinning wheel with carriages at set intervals, also stopping at set intervals, Colin had called it a ferris wheel. The whole thing was also lit up in reds and blues. "Why?"
"Cause it's night, and I bet the city looks great at night all those lights, and families, and it'll stop when we reach the top and we'll see everything for miles, and it'll be great, I'm sure." Colin gushed arms gesturing wildly.
Damian looked back to the spinning wheel and then back to Colin's shining green eyes, face lit with a grin, and the lights of the 'ferris wheel', the weak blue lights causing those freckles to stand out even more. Damian sighed; "fine, but then we should call Alfred to take us back."
"Alright, let's go." Then Damian was being dragged and buying the tickets for himself and Colin, there was just one little thing he couldn't help but notice.
"What's with all these couples getting on?"
Colin shrugged; "dunno maybe they could only come now, or maybe they agree that the city'd be nicer at night."
"And that look the ticket lady gave us?"
"I don't know, I can't read minds." Colin said blushing for some reason.
Damian stepped inside the carriage and looked back to a hesitating Colin. He really didn't get the other boy's caution when entering new places, he even still hesitated a bit before stepping into the manor. So Damian reached out and grabbed Colin's hand dragging him into the box.
He sat down and spared a glance at the freckled boy, who was blushing again. He was also studiously keep his green eyes looking out the viewing window. "Not like you can see much yet anyway."
"I guess, just don't want to miss anything."
Damian moved and dropped down next to his friend, who jumped and almost, almost turned to face him. Damian took a page from Dick's book at this point and leaned across Colin's lap, one hand stabilizing him by resting on Colin's leg, just like he saw Dick do to Wally all the time.
"Missed that, didn't you?" He teased smirking slightly.

*squee* Wedding Day. xD Oh yes Dick, you two have been dating for a long long time.

"Nah, we're here to spy, we'd lose sight of them in the crowd better to just wait." Wally replied throwing his 15th hot dog into his mouth, before going for the ice cream in his other hand.
Dick wondered if he was honestly missing the obvious or if he was messing with him, it probably didn't matter really. Dick traced the box Colin and Damian where in, they'd hit the apex a couple minutes ago and were now coming down.
"Wonder how the others'll be getting home."
"Others?" Wally asked.
----
Damian stretched his fingers brushing Colin's shoulder. "You were right."
"H-huh?"
"It was a nice view."
"Ah." Colin fidgeted a moment before noticing Damian had started walking and caught up.
Damian pulled out his cell phone, and hit the button for Alfred. "A, yeah, come pick us up now."
"Hey, brats." A rough voice called out, it was a little to notice but Damian and Colin had wandered into an area that was strangely deserted. Garish colours decorated the booths which were shorter than the norm.
Distantly Damian realized they'd walked into a place for young kids at the carnival a place that would normally be loud and bright as overly-cheerful underpaid men, and woman in costumes entertained dull small children. Now it was a dark place and no one was present but Damian, Colin and the drunken lot who'd escaped to this deserted place to get hammered without someone nagging at them. In summation: scum that was clogging up a place that was supposed to be free of their kind of filth.
Scum that had them surrounded in a loose circle, the members of the group swaying in place, only just sober enough to still be able to stand. They could take them, surely, no one would believe a bunch of drunkards if they were to claim a small child turned into a hulking muscle-man like some kind of comic book character.
"Hey. Brats what's you doing here anyway, this place be closed to snot-nosed brats nows."
"You're the one who doesn't belong, and could you not talk, you're natural stench is bad enough without your disgusting addiction clogging the air as well."
The fat-sack of crap reacted exactly like scum always does, by screaming, breaking the bottle in his hand and charging. Damian easily moved in grabbing his shoulder and pulling himself up knee to the loser's chin. He flipped and kicked off it's face just to be sure.
Damian twisted avoiding the stab at his exposed back sending his fist crashing into the spot between the attacker's-a female he noticed dully, not that the gender of his attacker really mattered-shoulder blades. He kicked her once in the ribs to ensure she'd stay down.
----
Colin watched as Damian threw himself into the fight, and swallowed. He could do this, if he became Abuse it would be so easy. But they were normal people, even if they'd become drunk and violent and Abuse could break someone so easily, but they were closing in, and he was against the booth and his free space was slowly decreasing. Like when there were too many kids and he got lost in the shuffle and the space was too small and he couldn't breath, and they had knives, and Damian was only just realizing what was happening, the knife was coming he'd have to-
The knife, or rather the arm holding the knife stopped. Someone slipped underneath the raised arm and dug it's elbow into the attacker's throat. "No one's touching the brats." Another attacker went flying as something moving way too fast collided with them. A third figure fell from the roof of one of the booths landing on the shoulders of one of the drunkards twisting while still perched.
The nimble figure was easily able to dismount and repeat the process with another drunk. A smaller figure was darting between three different people moving as if they see what they were going to do and then striking out bringing one, two, and finally the third down.
Colin again turned his attention to the figure directly in front of him. He was less athletic than Damian or the one from the roofs, but he recognized this one and gave him a clue as to who came to help them, if Jason was here he could guess who the others were.

But Yay!! They're here to save Colin and Damian!! Bat!Family fighting together!

;___; Very sad how Abuse came about though.
I really love how adorable and kind of awkward Damian and Colin are. Damian's basically using what he's seen Dick do and it is soooo cute. I swear Colin and Wally should like meet and discuss (read:gossip) about their little black-haired besties!

"So, what are you all doing here?" He asked mildly annoyed at how they were all here, most likely spying on his outing with his friend.
Dick grabbed Wally's hand and raised it together with his own; "spying." He admitted sounding way too happy about that.
Jason huffed, "I just happened to be here. It's a carnival, don't flatter yourself, brat."
"I was still confused as to how you made a friend, and came to see if you hadn't just bullied Colin into it." Damian would have hurt Drake for that if Dick hadn't grabbed his shoulder and made him wince. "But, after today, yeah, you're obviously friends, good for both of you." Damian was surprised how real Tim got that to sound.
Damian's eye twitched, and he turned to their sister, who pointed at Dick which probably meant she had been spying to. And how off-guard must he have been all day if they had all been spying on him without him noticing? Especially Wally, how could the loud voracious red-haired idiot follow him without Damian noticing?
----
The group headed to the entrance to find an idling limo. There was a few weird moments where Wally insisted he could get home on his own, only for Dick to insist it was fine. It ended when Jason picked Wally up and threw him into the limo, with Dick sliding in next to him. Damian followed pulling Colin in with him, not really caring to wait for Colin to hesitate to enter the damn thing. Jason, Cass, and Tim got in with much less fanfare.
Colin leaned against Damian quite exhausted, despite not actually doing any fighting, and fell asleep feeling quite safe despite how closed the space he was in. He could ask who the other red-head, and what the fast thing was that helped them later, he had the strangest feeling he'd be back to that manor quite a bit.

And, done. Glad for the enjoyment I've given my fellow anons and seriously Colin y so adorable? Also, I realize in retrospect I forgot to give Tim his due in the fight, ORZ ;_;, be assured he was there and fighting to protect his little brother like the others.

The last fight... poor Colin... but it's okay, you don't have to worry! All of Damian's siblings are here to save the day! And their responses were just so perfectly them. Dick is way to happy to admit he was spying, Jason deflects and denies, Tim does it because he wants more information, and Cass just points for an explanation.
Thank you so much for this fill. It was amazing. I can't even- I love this.

Even better than that page of ASSBAR, or All Star Crazy Steve and Dick Grayson, age 12 if you prefer, with the topless neo-nazi chick with sawsitka pasties? 'Cause I had to put down my friend's copy of the comic and fell off their bed laughing when I saw that and if my fill is better than that one moment of pure WTF LMFAO I am a very happy Writer!Anon.
Seriously though, so happy to see my fill has brought so much lols and delicious fluff (and Coling angst, why do I torture Colin so he's adorable ;_;) to everyone. Almost makes me want to take on that 'Bruce has to babysit Wally for some reason' prompt, cause I want to write more Bat!Family.
Loved writing them so much, wasn't even a challenge. Again, thanks for all the praise anon and everyone who didn't even bother to de-anon for this.
