There’s something about playing video games that brings out the most competitive parts in people. Not that the two of them aren’t regularly competitive, but whenever they sit on Dick’s floor and start up the game system things just get…vindictive. Often the matches end up with arguments and playful fighting, none of it serious though and after a brief food break they’re back to playing. Wally enjoys these gaming sessions probably a little more than he should. It’s also an almost perfect time to confuse to Dick. They’re alone in these gaming sessions, the atmosphere is comfortable and there’s no chance of being distracted by needing to stop crime. It was just a matter of timing.

After grabbing food but before starting up a new round was always a good time. So it was just the time that Wally decided to confess. Nibbling on the cookie Wally watched as Dick flipped through the games, searching for the one they hadn’t played yet today. “Hey Dick?”

“We’re not playing Smash Brothers again. You’ve already proved your point.”

Wally hides his smile, he had so proven his point, “Yeah, b-but that’s not what I wanted to say.”

“Oh,” Dick puts the games down and looks at him, full attention, “Alright, talk.”

Taking this as his chance Wally says the words before he has time to back out, “Dick I really li-“

“DICK!”

It’s on pure instinct that Dick catches his ‘little brother’ as the child comes barreling into the room. Tim clings to Dick’s arm, “Dick, can I play with you!? I brought a new game and it’s not a kid game like Damien says. I swear!”

Looking up Dick gives an Wally an exasperated look. Wally smiles back; it’s just a tad bit strained. This is not the first time another bat sibling has burst into one of his confessions. “Sure Tim, what game did you bring?” Dick asks, moving Tim so that he’s sitting between the two teenagers.

One of the first things you get to know about the Batclan, there’s a lot of them. Dick is the ‘oldest’ member, adopted by Bruce first and the two of them have a connection that’s different than the others. He’s the first Robin, and at the moment the only Robin- although everyone knows that all the kids will probably take up the mantle or some variation of it. Dick isn’t the only permanent child resident at the Wayne home though. There’s Jason, he came a few years after Dick. Not soon after was Tim, who only lives in the home because his father is in a coma- he lived with his father until that point. Damien is a demon child and was taken in not too long after Tim- or was it before Tim? Then there’s Cassandra, Wally’s not entirely sure how she came around, he just came over and she was there. Stephanie comes and goes. Wally isn’t sure if Dick is the oldest in age- only Tim and Damien were visibly younger- but he acts like the responsible older brother. So everyone treats him as such. A second thing about the Batclan, they are very close knit.

Wally’s figured that out over time. He’s been to the Wayne mansion plenty of times, and over those times he’s gotten to know more about the Wayne family. They’re a large dysfunctional family, and all of them look up to Dick. And they don’t care if Wally’s there or not, when they need their big brother, they’ll get their big brother. More than once Wally’s been ignored in favor of one of the younger siblings. Not just in their game sessions- although that’s happened more than once.

There was a time when they were about to go out, Stephanie came running down the hall saying Jason was playing too rough. Dick had told Wally to go ahead and he’d catch up. Wally had gone ahead but Dick never showed up. That was just one example. Damien would need help with homework, and even though there were others to ask he’d go straight to Dick. Stephanie needed some help with a project. Cassandra wanted a bedtime story. Jason wants to practice a few maneuvers. The list went on and on.

Still…Wally glances over at Dick who’s reading the instruction booklet out loud as Tim starts up the game. Dick really does make a great big brother. Looking at Tim Wally meets the little boy’s gaze before Tim hurriedly looks back to the television. Wally follows his example and looking at the starting screen Wally frowns, “Did you say this was new?”

Tim looks startled and after a moment nods, “Yeah.”

“Funny…I could’ve sworn you played this last month.”

For a moment Tim stiffens up, then shrugs, “I-I might’ve played it before. I just don’t remember!”

“Oh…” Wally shrugs it off, those sort of things happen.

What had been a fun gaming sessions turns into playtime with Tim. The kid’s cool and the game isn’t that bad, Wally approves of the kid’s choice in games, so it’s not all that bad. Watching Tim play Wally thinks back to other times Dick’s siblings have burst in on him about to confess. All of them have done it at least once. Tim did it a lot…so did Cassandra. Wally frowns a little; in fact…every attempt in the Wayne manor to confess has ended badly. If it’s not the siblings physically it’s something loud that they do, or some action that sends Dick running to their aid.

Staring at Tim a small frown appears on Wally’s face. If he didn’t know any better…he’d think Dick’s family was sabotaging him. As if hearing that thought Tim looks at him. Wally stares at him and Tim blinks, smiles brightly, then turns away. Sighing Wally decides he’s being silly- he was probably just being paranoid.

Laying back Wally stares at the ceiling. It would explain a lot though….

Or not being paranoid ENOUGH. Silly Wally, this is the Batfamily we're talking about here.
