And the Stars Shine Bright - Traverse Town 2.1 geena51 October 25 2011, 20:58:03 UTC
... I can't remember where I wanted to go with this story. I've written three worlds so far, and I'm currently stuck on the fourth, but I am going to get this done, one way or another.

~

Robin wakes up to a tattered sign saying Traverse Town, the small amount of light he has comes from a break in the cloudy sky above him.

His head is pounding, his clothes are ripped and the only things that seem to be intact are his mask and belt. When he slowly gets up, his body protests and it feels like it's screaming at him to sit down and continue sleeping.

Robin drags himself forward. It seems he's twisted one of his feet, it's lagging behind and making him stumble every three steps and he can't see anything anymore.

Logically, he knows that he is taking support from a wall, but the gritty feel of stone and the uneven ground is all he can feel.

His head is pounding and after what feels like forever, he sees flickering light before him.

It’s an old neon sign, blinking in and out of existence as he walks towards it. Robin can't see what it says, but he finds something more useful than just lights.

He finds Wally.

He's knocked out on the ground, the area around his eyes is red and as Robin crouches (painfully) down, Wally's breathe stirs.

“KF, hey, wake up.” Robin hisses and lays a hand on his shoulder. Wally groans and blinks his eyes open.

He looks around before closing them again.

“What the hell happened?” He asks and slowly sits up. “I feel like a truck ran me over.”

Robin chews on his lip and thinks over the question.

“I don't know what happened, but we're in Traverse Town, wherever that is. We should try to find the others.” Wally nods and blinks his eyes rapidly.

“Yeah. That sounds like a good idea. Could you turn on the lights first though?” Robin looks from Wally's eyes to the blinking sign and back again.

“I'll... do that when we have something to light.” He says carefully. It can't be as bad as it seems. Wally just needs some time to heal. Yeah. That's it. Nothing to worry about.

Wally just nods and reaches out a hand that Robin takes. It's not perfect and the longer they sit still, the more Wally fidgets.

The longer they're still, the more obvious the sounds of the darkness becomes.

Small scratching noises, growling and shuffling become more and more obvious. Robin tightens his hand around Wally's.

“You hear that?” He whispers. It takes a beat, but Wally answers.

“Yeah. What is it?” If it is what Robin thinks it is, then they're in deep trouble. The creatures that had come to their world had taken over in just a few hours.

“It's nothing.” He lies. Wally's frown shows that he doesn't believe him.

When Robin closes his eyes he can see them. Shadow creatures that came and struck, that tore people apart, killed children and left lifeless shells behind.

He had discovered his power too late then. Now he wasn't sure he could summon up the energy to even try and fight with the unfamiliar weapon.

The scratching comes closer and Robin can see their yellow glowing eyes now. He feelt doomed. Neither Batman nor the Flash would come save them; Robin had seen them both be ripped open before him.

He's happy that Wally can't see their death coming towards them as one of the creatures lunges for them.

“Hey!” A voice calls out and something swishes by in the air in front of them and the creature backs of. Both of their eyes widen, even if Wally can't see anything.

“W-who?” Robin stammers, but doesn't have the energy to stand up. A girl with short hair runs up to them and catches the weapon she threw.

“We don't have time for this, up, up, up! We need to go! Leon won't be able to distract them for long!” The girl waves her arms before pushing Wally up to his feet and then dragging Robin up. Robin sways dangerously, but Wally stands firm. The only thing that seems wrong is his eyes.

“Where are we going?” Wally asks as the girl starts dragging them both.

The last thing Robin remembers before passing out is the sounds of a blade behind them and the rushing feet before him.
