“Council,” he began, standing up. They turned to him and bowed respectfully before straightening. “I thank you for your hospitality, as well as your peoples',” he smiled down at them all, and the women batted their eyelashes at him. “But I am afraid that Hermes and I must begin our task. Zeus hates being kept waiting.”
The councilmen understood and let them depart, but not without offering piles of treasures to them beforehand. Robin politely declined, while Wally decided to grab a coin from the pile and slip it into his pocket. He got a glare for his trouble, but he insisted that bringing a tiny bronze coin with them would not have world-ending consequences. Robin was not convinced, but let it go when the guards who would escort them around Athens arrived.
==========================
Robin allowed himself an amazed gasp as they were led into the Stoa of Attalus. It was much grander and majestic than he ever expected it to be. The marble was polished and spotless, and the carvings were masterfully done, nothing at all like the restoration made in the present.
The people inside parted for them and knelt respectfully as they passed, but Robin was far too whelmed by his surroundings to remember that he was posing as a god. Right now, he felt more like a child on his first field trip.
“I admit, KF, you really outdid yourself this time,” Robin praised, playfully elbowing his friend’s side.
Wally seemed just as whelmed as he was, eyes shining with fascination as he smiled. “Now you agree with me.”
“But your first good idea aside, why did I suddenly become Eros? I was supposed to be Morpheus!”
That got Wally to look at him with an amused smirk. “Well, it IS part of our job to adapt, and I say you adapted pretty well to that, god of sexy.” Robin scoffed as Wally made goo-goo eyes at him. “I didn’t even know you had it in you.”
Robin shrugged, feeling a blush coming on. “Hey, adopted son of Bruce Wayne, remember? Billionaire-playboy-ladies man?”
A chuckle, then a hand patted his shoulder. “He taught you well, Rob. He taught you well.”
Suddenly, a heavier, larger hand closed itself around their upper arms. “I can’t say I agree with you, Kid Flash.”
Screams echoed around them and the guards quickly raised their weapons, but made no move to charge, fear clearly showing in their eyes.
Even in Ancient Greece, people trembled at the sight of his mentor. They all probably thought he was Hades. The situation would’ve been laughable, if only Robin wasn’t caught in it. As the chaos continued around him, he mentally reviewed his Greek mythology lessons. Finally, a lightbulb flickered on in his head, and he raised his free arm to catch everyone’s attention.
“Calm yourselves! It is Ares! Yes! My father, Ares!”
