"Don't be an asshole, man." Dick whined over the comm, "I can't go back for it and I'm going to get grounded and I was just getting somewhere with..."
"What?" Tim shot out his line and swung, his bike was hidden in an alley over by Robinson park.
"Never mind." Dick muttered, "It's nothing."
"Oh no," Tim said with a grin, "that doesn't sound like nothing."
"Well you're not going to help anyway so--"
"Tell me what it is and I'll get the grapple for you."
"...Really?"
"Sure." Tim grinned, "'I've got the redbird with me and B doesn't expect me back until dawn. I'll go get it for you. If you tell me."
There was a long pause over the line as Dick audibly debated whether or not to share.
"It's Wally." He said finally. "I like him, okay?"
"Like him?" Tim asked, landing with a soft thud and dashing to his concealed bike.
"Yeah." Dick's voice dared him to comment on it.
Tim didn't really know what to say. It wasn't like he was jealous, not really. But it felt a little bit like Dick was moving into a whole new life, one that didn't include his creepy little brother-figure. It was bound to happen, Tim thought, everyone had to grow up sometimes.
This was the sort of situation, Tim reminded himself, in which a little bit of emotional intelligence would go a long way. Tim wasn't burdened with an overabundance of emotional intelligence, but he'd studied it enough to know when to not tease Dick over a crush.
"Okay."
"Thanks. Red out."
Tim switched his comm back to the normal channel, and took off for Happy Harbor.
