Jungkook likes cherry blossoms.
He would stand under a cherry blossom tree and stare up, fascinated by its magnificence. He’d watch the beautiful petal fall to the ground for hours in April, wishing he was as graceful and beautiful as the tiny pink petal.
It was a late April evening when Jungkook first met Jimin. The older was lost and had timidly asked Jungkook for direction to the high school that Jungkook just so happened to also attend. The feeling Jungkook had when he first laid eyes on Jimin was familiar. It was like the feeling he had while looking up at the cherry blossoms. He was jealous of Jimin.
He was jealous that the older received attention from the people walking past without even trying. He was jealous that the older had such an adorable face even though he was older than Jungkook by two years. He was jealous with the fact that Jimin never gave up.
“Jungkookie, let’s have lunch together,” Jimin would say with his eye curved up in tiny arches, smile on full display.
“No,” Jungkook would grumble but not put up a fight when Jimin grabbed onto his wrist and dragged the younger up onto the roof.
They would sit up there the entire lunch hour, Jimin rambling on about life while Jungkook listened.
“Taehyung’s always hungry. He’d be complaining about how lunch is so far away moments after he enters the classroom in first period. He’s so stupid sometimes. Hey, we should hang out with Taehyung-”
“Why do you still bother with me?” Jungkook interrupts Jimin mid sentence.
Jimin looks at him confused, head tilted to the side. “What do you mean by that, Jungkookie?”
“I mean… I’m always rejecting your offers of hanging together and yet, you try so hard and continue asking. If it were me, I would have given up months ago.”
Jimin’s eyes soften and slide closer to Jungkook, wrapping an arm around Jungkook’s shoulder. “It’s because you always look so lonely and sad. I know how crappy that feels.”
Jungkook feels the wetness on his cheek before he realizes he’s crying. He tries to wipe them before Jimin could see them but it was too late. Jimin had already seen the tears and had even raised a tissue up to pat the tears away.
“Don’t worry, this is a clean tissue,” Jimin laughs and for the first time in years, Jungkook lets his mask fall off and laughs alongside with Jimin.

It’s the first day of high school for Hoseok and she’s sitting in front of her vanity, carefully applying on her make-up and curling her hair to perfection. She pulls her skirt up a little to make it end just above her knees. She turns around to look at her reflection in her full length mirror.
My skirt is short and I’m so cute, she thinks and immediately turns around, running her hand through her hair messily. “This style doesn’t fit me at all!”
“Hoseok-unnie! Save me!” Jungkook cries as she barges into Hoseok’s room without knocking. “Help me fix my hair!”
“You need to learn how to do your own hair, Jungkook. I’ll one day go into University and I won’t be here to help you do your hair,” Hoseok says once Jungkook makes herself comfortable in front of Hoseok’s vanity.
“Don’t say that! You’ll make me cry,” Jungkook pouts and looks at Hoseok’s reflection in the mirror. “What happened to your hair?”
“I was trying a new style but it didn’t fit me,” Hoseok explains while running her comb through Jungkook’s smooth brown hair.
“Are you going to put them into braids then?”
“Probably, why?”
“But you’ll look like a granny. You should leave it down and curled. You’ll look super cute!”
“That’s really not my style though.”
“You’ll never get a boyfriend with those braids though, Hoseok-unnie,” Jungkook pouts but it quickly morphs into a wide smile once Hoseok finishes turning Jungkook’s hair from a birds nest to a pretty little bun perched on her head.
“Done,” Hoseok smiles and pats Jungkook lightly on the head.
“You’re so fast at this! It’s so cute,” Jungkook exclaims and turns around to hug her sister. “Unnie, just this once, leave your hair down? Please?”
“I’ll think about it,” Hoseok says and pushes Jungkook out her door. “Now hurry up or you’ll miss the bus.”
“Bye!”
“I need to fix my hair before I go to school,” Hoseok mumbles to herself, Jungkook’s words repeating themselves in her head.
“Who’s that cute girl over there? Her hair must be super smooth,” Hoseok hears the group of guys in the corner whispering to each other.
“Yeah, unlike that girl in the far corner. What’s up with the braids? That’s not cute at all. She is just like those girls in the war period in the textbooks,” the guys laugh and Hoseok face plants into the textbook she has opened in front of her, hoping no one else would notice her.
“Hi, is there anyone sitting here?” she hears a voice beside her and she slowly looks up. Her eyes slowly widen.
Standing right in front of her was the most popular guy and also the number one student in her grade, Park Jimin. The guy who beat her mark and caused her not to be able to get into the prestigious schools she had hoped of getting into.
“Hello? Is there anyone sitting here?” Jimin repeats and tilts his head cutely to the side. “Are you okay?”
Hoseok shakes herself out of her trance and replies, “Sorry. No one is sitting there and I am perfectly okay.”
“You’re funny,” Jimin laughs and Hoseok could feel the heat spreading across her face. “Those braids are pretty cute too. They look good on you.”
Maybe, just maybe, Hoseok wouldn’t mind changing her hairstyle once in a while to hear Jimin compliment her.
