the one thing that Daehyun was not was creepy.
at the moment, if any of his friends saw him right now, they would beg to differ. it has been two hours since daehyun first entered the bookstore and he has been holding the same book, standing in the exact same spot, the whole time. it’s not like he wanted to come here. he had planned to go to a convenience store nearby to buy youngjae and himself some food but his feet had other plans. he somehow walked into this bookstore and had been subtly watching the university student who works here from three aisles away.
daehyun was obviously not creepy.
“why the hell am i even here?” daehyun sighed as he slowly put the book back onto the shelf only to nearly drop it when his phone rings from his pocket. he tucked the book under his arm and hurriedly retrieved the phone while apologizing to the few customers that were around him.
“what do you want?” daehyun grumbled at the caller without looking at his caller display.
“well, aren’t you rude? hello to you too, daehyun,” the other chuckled and daehyun rolled his eyes.
“what do you want, youngjae?” daehyun asked again, slightly more irritated than before.
“what do i want? i want your ass back here with your author’s manuscript! his manuscript is due tonight at 9 p.m. you dumbass!” daehyun held his phone away from his ear and winced.
“dude calm down, i have his manuscript. no need to yell,” chided daehyun.
“well, you better get your ass back here before himchan comes and kicks my ass for letting you leave to stalk your little bookstore boy!” youngjae laughed and hung up without saying goodbye.
“i’m not stalking anyone and you call me rude,” daehyun muttered as he placed the book back to its original spot, almost dropping it the second time that night when a voice startled him from his right.
“would you like me to help you?”
“shit,” Daehyun cursed under his breath at his bad luck.
“excuse me?” the voice asked incredulously.
daehyun widened his eyes and looked at the other. “sorry, i didn’t mean to swear at you! i just remembered i had something to do.”
daehyun mentally slapped himself.
smooth move.
“oh, alright. hope you don’t mind me being rude or anything but you’re jung daehyun, right?” the younger smiled shyly with a slight tilt to his head.
daehyun stares.
how in the world did the guy he has been looking at for 3 hours know his name!?
The other leaned his head closer to daehyun and waved his hands in front of him. “uhmm, are you okay? i’m sorry if i was rude or anything. i think i should leave you alone. bye.”
“wait, no!” daehyun grabbed hold of his wrists and quickly let go when he realized what he had just done. “s-sorry, i was just surprised you knew my name.”
“oh! the director of your company’s sales department is actually over there and he heard me talking about your recent book so he kindly told me you were actually standing here. all my favourite books were edited by you, by the way.”
they both shyly smiled at each other with faces almost as red as tomatoes. “i’m moon jongup, by the way; nice to meet you.”
he extended his hands out to daehyun. daehyun looked down at his hands and returned the gesture.
his hands are so warm; daehyun thought and continued to grasp jongup’s hand until the latter let out a little cough. he quickly released the others hand and blushed again.
“sorry,” he mumbled and started to play with the hems of his jacket.
“no worries. i’m done in five minutes. do you mind waiting and we could grab some coffee later and get to know each other more?” jongup said and let out a nervous laugh.
daehyun eagerly nodded and jongup left with a small wave to help another customer.
daehyun remained on the spot with a goofy grin pasted on his face. he scored a date, which is what he is going to call it, with the guy he’s been watching - not stalking! - from afar.
life is good.
until he received a call from youngjae.
“where the hell are you!?”
