the fam

Yesterday was just wonderful. The weather was simply springtime perfect. I had defrosted too much chicken for Hal and I to eat alone so we called up some family and had an impromptu BBQ. I'll tell you, after hosting and cooking for Cecelia's first birthday where there were nearly 100 people at my house, I truly feel like I can do anything. I can throw any kind of party at any time with little to no notice and it no longer stresses me out. So yesterday, Shell & Erik and the kids came over, and so did my parents. I had marinated two kinds of chicken, Hal made burgers, and we did zuccini and corn on the cob on the grill.

My one grandmom who will be 83 this month noticed last week while she was at my house that I have some nice trees in the backyard. So out of her magical basement wonderland she pulled a baby swing that's meant to be tied up in a tree. My dad brought it with him yesterday and he wandered around the yard for a while before deciding on exactly where he wanted to hang it. Little Erika, toting her favorite stuffed Eeyore, silently followed him just a step behind the whole time. Like she knew Pa was up to something and she wanted to be there for whatever was going to happen. Cecelia and Trisha sat and played in the grass. The kids took turns on the swing. I got hollered at by my dad for trying to climb the dogwood in the yard, and then when I got out of the tree my father climbed up. We ate a lot, had some beers, and just relaxed in the breezeway. It was so nice.
