on writing and performing

Just some thoughts that came to mind after watching Doryuu dancing at a company talent night, blurted out over five tweets. It captures some thoughts on the nature of creation and performing. I figured I'd share it here too:I see choreography as beling like writing music or script. The performer takes what is written and through their performance ( Read more... )

I know it'd be quite difficult for me to attempt a rebuild of that kind - I know it's just a 'suit, but still, skinning it would feel so uncomfortable. ^_^; But it's very tempting to do something like that with Red, who remains with me, tucked away in the very same cardboard box (but with enough tape around it from many flights that it'll outlast any Rubbermaid box =:) as when I took Red away after CF4, when Farallon so very kindly parted with it.

But first will come a new creation, once money's coming in again - recreating my SL self in RL. Which will be quite a challenge on the head construction, as I'd be aiming for a more "realistic" look, so foam carving won't be an appropriate technique, given the inevitable extra size. I suspect there'll be some experimentation involved. ^_^; Likely as not, the balaclava/mesh base seems like a good candidate - certainly, the outward results Robert Hill achieved with his fiberglass heads are very good indeed, but that lends an uncomfortably claustrophobic feel to them.

And absolutely, there's a real skill in bringing a costume to life, especially if it's not personal. Sometimes, that can be surprisingly easy (well, at least, not a strain, even if the results weren't necessarily any good =:), if the character resonates with you - I know I had great fun as Vicky Rabbit a couple times.

Gotta love those Keller ears. ^_^ (Especially with this bun - do you know their name? I've only ever known that 'suit visually)
