Contour
Just cleaning out some file folders... figured I'd enumerate problems I had with my Ford Contour so that I can compare to my Mazda in the future.
377 Miles: Oil leaking from drain plug, install new plug.
377 Miles: Cruise control works intermittently.
844 Miles: Car still leaking oil, replaced oil pan (twice).
844 Miles: Cruise control barely works at all (never fixed by dealer).
9344 Miles: Driver side window rattles when rolled up/down.
24229 Miles: Rears suspension squeaks, lubed parking brake cable.
24229 Miles: Stitching coming apart on back seat.
29799 Miles: Grinding noise from left front wheel (not fixed)
29799 Miles: Passenger front door leaks occasionally (never fixed)
30177 Miles: Grinding noise found: "Several loose parts and tie straps" (fixed)
48278 Miles: Engine explodes - as in parts exit via punching holes in bottom of crankcase (engine replaced)
I accidentally fixed the cruise control myself by re-seating a relay in the engine compartment.
After replacing the engine, it always rattled a lot at start-up, and the gearbox never felt right. But the gas mileage did go up.
I'm at about 8000 miles on the Mazda, 0 problems.
