(Background music: After School - When I Fall)

Crown Prince Wu Fan decides to visit the main actor of his documentary movie project. He admits that actually he misses his smile. He just loves the way his smile fills up his brain till he unconsciously smiles, too. Last time people around him checked, Crown Prince Wu Fan rarely smiled. It’s not like they don’t want it to happen, but it happens all of a sudden. Inwardly, they thank whoever makes him become brighter than before.

Wu Fan wants to blame on Yixing’s beautiful smile, but his smile is just too cute to blame.

He walks upstairs; to the room Yixing always uses for practicing. But the more Wu Fan gets closer to the practice room; he doesn’t hear any sound of shoes squeaking. When he opens the door, he finds none. There’s only Yixing’s purple backpack which is unzipped.

Where is he?

Wu Fan turns around to look outside through the huge window. He hopes he can see Yixing down there.

And he’s right; Yixing is down there, at the backyard, sitting on the grass with his guitar.

Wu Fan stays still for a while, enjoying the view of Yixing’s board back and shoulder. Wu Fan notices that Yixing had his hair cut but he isn’t sure since Yixing is back-facing him-later he’ll take a look. Not wanting to miss Yixing’s voice, he immediately goes downstairs and straightly heads to the backyard. He wonders why Yixing loves to be at the Modern Dance Department’s backyard, but he really knows that it’s a comfortable place ever in the entire of Beijing College of Arts. He once had a chit chat with Yixing there, though.

When he arrives there, he doesn’t approach Yixing so soon. He finds out that the dimpled guy is singing an unfamiliar song with sweet melody from his guitar, and Wu Fan thinks Yixing’s voice is really nice. His Changsha accent is strong, still, but really, it’s nice. Wu Fan doesn’t care whether ‘eargasm’ exists in the dictionary or not, is classified as an inappropriate word or not, but all he cares is that… he realizes something.

He falls for this guy deeper.

But God… we’re both guys, Wu Fan sniffs softly when he recalls that fact. Nothing in history the kingdom has a king and prince consort. A king only has wife who becomes queen and if he marries other women they will be the concubines.

Again, they’re man and women.

Wu Fan stares at Yixing’s back sadly.

But I know nothing about his feeling towards me, though.

“Crown Prince Wu Fan?”

All of a sudden, Yixing’s voice breaks Wu Fan’s thoughts. The Crown Prince comes back to earth, blinking rapidly like something has gotten into his eyes. Of course; Yixing’s smile it is.

“Oh God, it happens again. All is my fault, Your Highness, for not noticing you so often,” Yixing asks apologize. He bows so deep to represent his guilt.

“Yixing, it’s okay. I’m not mad at you,” Wu Fan smiles, tapping Yixing’s shoulder to make the younger guy face him.

“But it’s like nth time already, Your Highness. I’m extremely sorry,” Yixing insists. He’s still afraid to look back at Wu Fan’s eyes, so he looks at his shoes instead.

Wu Fan, face still is plastered with smile, lifts Yixing’s chin with his thumb and index finger just to meet his gaze. Suddenly, he feels like his heart is getting heavier that he can’t help but hold his breath-if he let it out, it would be a shaky one-when he meets Yixing’s eyes. He’s lost in them. He curses himself for taking this kind of act and he-

He falls for this guy deeper and deeper.

But with all the strength he has gathered, he says, “It’s me who didn’t want to disturb you being engaged with your own world, Zhang Yixing.”

Reluctantly, he brings his hand back. He swears his thumb almost touched Yixing’s plump lower lip. Yet he hopes, Yixing would never see him blushing nor hearing his rapid heartbeat like crazy, since they are standing close to each other. They are trapped in a pregnant silent and awkward, till Wu Fan clears his throat.

“Anyway… I didn’t know you sing and play guitar,” Wu Fan tries to be an ice-breaker.

Yixing scratches his hair which is not itchy, with a coy smile. “Uh… they’re only the hobbies of mine, Your Highness. And I also like to compose my own songs. And I can play piano, too.”

Wu Fan hums, learning on Yixing’s words. “I guess that one is your self-composed song, am I right?”

The dancer nods coyly to say Wu Fan is right.

“I’m just surprised that you have got many talents yet you took modern dance as your major?”

“Dancing is a brand new world for me and I was really attempted to try, while I had been learning to play guitar and piano from long time ago. But in my free time, I like to sing and play guitar. Especially when I’m thinking of something that mess up my mind,” he says with laughter.

“Then, were you thinking of something?” Wu Fan asks.

Yixing stops laughing but he still smiles. His gaze now is aimed to Wu Fan. The Crown Prince hopes that the youngest among them was thinking about him, but he knows it’s only an empty dream. None will fill it up with what he wants.

“Nothing,” Yixing murmures. “It’s not an important thing.”

Wu Fan hums as if letting go of Yixing’s ‘unimportant thought’, but indeed he’s curious.

“Uh… Crown Prince? Is there anything I can do for you?”

All of sudden, Wu Fan loses his memory about the reason why he came. Once again, he wants to blame it on Yixing’s smile, but once again, his smile is too beautiful. Okay, the Crown Prince is being so incoherent now.

“I… uh…” Wu Fan tries to find the right words to say. “Next week I’m gonna go to Changsha. I… I wonder if I can get a nice tour guide…?”

Hearing ‘Changsha’, Yixing’s eyes are bulging out. After all, Changsha is his hometown and he hasn’t been home for two years. He really misses Changsha. He also misses his mom’s home-made meals-not the local food since he can’t eat spicy food very well while Changsha or Hunan entirely is famous with its spicy foods.

“By any chance, may I know what are you going to do in Changsha, Your Highness?”

Wu Fan grins. “For charity event. You said you want to do something for charity, didn’t you? Well… I think it’s a good choice to take you along with me there. Besides, it’s Changsha, your hometown.”

Yixing freezes. “It means I’ll be home…?”

“Yes, Zhang Yixing,” Wu Fan reassures.

Seconds after that, Wu Fan finds himself being in Yixing’s embrace after the shorter guy crashed into him. It’s Wu Fan’s turn to freeze on the spot. Why wouldn’t he? He can sniff Yixing’s sandalwood scent and it smells very manly at least for him. Very soothing and relaxing.

“Oh my God! I’m sorry!” Yixing pulls back. “I always treat my friends like this, and I was out of control. I shall be punished…”

Wu Fan inwardly catches his heartbeat because his heart suddenly forgets how to beat properly and neatly, thanks to Yixing’s sudden act. But he laughs instead, hiding his nervousness.

“I don’t know why I’m laughing when I should be angry to you,” Wu Fan says.

“I know, I shall be punished…”

“I’ll think about your punishment later. Now tell me, am I not your friend?”

Yixing looks up just to see Wu Fan’s hurtful smile.

“A Crown Prince like you wouldn’t want to be a friend of someone like me,” Yixing replies. “But to be very honest, I want to be your friend. But I’m afraid you’ll think that I only want the fame, which I would show to the world I’m Crown Prince Wu Yi Fan’s friend. I’m afraid that you’ll end up embarrassing yourself if you become my friend, Your Highness…”

The thought of how difficult to make friends because of his title comes again. Somehow he just wants to drop the ‘crown prince’ title and collect friends as many as possible. He only has Liu Chao and Bing Yang as friends, whose parents are like VVIP in the country-ministers, come on-and his heart falls again recalling the fact that he never had commoner friend before. If Yixing becomes his friend, then he’ll be the first.

“Well, I’ll never know unless I try, don’t you think so?” Wu Fan says in soft voice.

Yixing raises his eyebrows as a sign that he doesn’t get it. Wu Fan likes it when Yixing becomes Yixing.

“I’m more than willing to be your friend, Yixing.”

Yixing almost chokes on his own saliva hearing Wu Fan.

“But… Your Highness…”

“No buts, Yixing. I want to be your friend and that’s final. It’s a command and you better obey me,” Wu Fan says in an adamant tone; it sounds intimidating but it’s effective to make Yixing bow deeply again to him, declaring a confirmation about their friendship status.

“It’s honor to have Crown Prince Wu Yi Fan as friend,” Yixing says in his bow. His voice is a bit hoarse, but Wu Fan can hear it clearly.

“But Yixing, you can really have me as your friend in one condition…” Wu Fan folds his arms. Uh oh. He lets out his mischievous side.

Yixing looks up. “Yes, Your Highness?”

“That’s it. Don’t call me ‘Your Highness’ or ‘Crown Prince’. Call me Wu Fan.”

“B-but-“

“Yixing.”

Yixing sighs. But in his heart, he is just so extremely happy that he can’t describe it in words.

“Your request is command, Your-Wu Fan.”
