Yours truly is Israeli. Born here, lived here for 12 years. Then moved to the US. After five years, returned to Israel. Obviously, yours truly speaks Hebrew. Hebrew is yours truly's mother tongue.
One of the benefits that returned junior citizens (me, returned to Israel two months short of my 18th birthday) have is government financial support for higher education. Sounds good, right? Sure is.
Except I now have to go take a test to prove that I know Hebrew.
Are they fucking crazy?
I spoke to one of the student help desk representative at the university and even she said that it's fucking ridiculous.
The dumbest thing is that because I lived in the US, I got exempt from English classes. Because I have a NY high school diploma I don't even need to take the English exemption test. But Hebrew? My mother tongue? Yeah, go prove you know Hebrew. And not only that I know Hebrew, but that I know so to a specific academic level. The test is in July. That's the summer between my first and second years at the university. They have got to be kidding me.
Fucking crazies.
