The Iranian people don't pretend they have any freedom of expression. Unless you're Shadi Ghadirian and everyone loves you because because you put colourful chadors around kettles and ironing boards. But the Iranian government like pretending they give people the freedom to say and do what they wish...not surprisingly, it's a lie. They block massive amounts of websites, books and other media from Iran although there are a few smart-arses that can override that by hacking [even google was blocked for a few hours once!]...they even 'censor' out parts of women that are considered 'haram' [by Iranian governmental standards mind you, not by Qu'ranic standards] on pictures on CDs and stuff imported from overseas. They've now banned people from wearing boots over pants. And yet Ahmadinejad still insists that they have valid reasons for all their decisions, and when he knows he's going to get shit for something, he backs away and hides himself. Like that time he refused to speak at Tehran university because he didn't think it was 'appropriate' even though he had already made the appointment...and there were students wishing to hear his opinions.

I think they even changed the date of Eid al-Fitr once. What the fuck?! How can you change Eid?!
