Insect Attack!

Damn you Virginia insects!!! While I am loving this area, it is beautiful, has actual seasons, and is full of things to do...there are SO many bugs?? Why God? Why???? Today, as I was driving along with the windows down, enjoying the warm weather and singing along to the radio like a dork, I felt something smack me in the face. OUCH! I thought a truck driving by might have kicked up a rock that flew into my car but when I looked into my lap, I found a HUGE wasp flailing around stunned in my lap. Oh. My. God. It was practically my worst nightmare (insect nightmare that is) We are lucky I didn't crash. There was screaming...copious amounts of screaming. Lots of flailing, and panic rising. Then somehow I managed to regain my senses long enough to make a left turn and wait an eternity for cars to pass so I could pull into the closest parking lot where I proceeded to LEAP out of my car and shake and wiggle making sure it wasn't still on me.

Once I had established that the intruder wasn't on me, I proceeded with shaking hands to poke around my car, literally jumping and squeaking when anything brushed my skin. Of course there was the usual Virginia insect soup flying nearby so there were lots of things brushing my skin; therefore leading to lots of squeaking, jumping incidents. Well since the wasp was black and the interior of my car is black, I was unable to locate the intruder. However, I was fairly certain that I had injured it during the flailing and that it had not flown back out. Finally, I had to make the decision to climb back in the car and continue on my day knowing full well somewhere in my car the intruder was lurking...possibly waiting to POUNCE!

I drove to Giant (with one hand clutching my top lest it attempt to maneuver down my shirt) where I lingered trying to postpone the inevitable but eventually I knew I had to get back in the car. I opened the door waiting for it to make another bee line (pun intended) for my face, but nothing happened. I carefully climbed back in and as I went to close the door I looked down and THERE it was! Laying in the doorway. It was still alive and I knew it was out for blood so with one (or two) final screams I flicked it out of the car and closed the door!

HAHA! I won!!! But I know the war isn't over. The flying insect community is still in full force, and I know I have many insect battles left to fight. I...can...do this!!!! Maybe...maybe not, I dunno...
