Not without eliminating something or another that I felt needed to be said. I wouldn't have allowed it to go through at all, except that the other times when it's happened I was allowed to keep it the way I felt it needed to be. Whoever was moderating at whatever times it happened specifically looked at them and let them go through anyway. There were three or four of them, I think. I believe you yourself oversaw one of those of mine at least once.
Actually, I was going to talk to you about the possibility of changing the limit, since Scribbler seems to have disappeared and you have been the one keeping it going. :) But if you feel it's time to absolutely crack down on anything over 600, then it won't happen again.
That's okay. :) I know I'm not strictly following the set rules whenever it does go over, so if it does work out that we need to follow the rules more closely, I'm certainly willing to do my best to cooperate and not post anything that goes over. I was looking this one over before I posted it, trying to think how I could cut it down, but I just couldn't figure out how to and still have it make sense.
I like the way you explored how Duke (and Ryou Bakura) are sort of on the edges of Yugi's friendship circle: on the circumference rather than at the center.
Thank you! :) Yes, that's something that's rather bothered me for a long time. To some extent, they probably both distance themselves. (We know Ryou definitely does/did.) But I don't think that covers all of the explanation.
I definitely recommend Duke's manga introduction! It's Duelist #9 and #10. The anime just murdered it and made him look so awful. Gah. I blame most of the dislike of Duke in the fandom on the anime intro (and on some of the wonky dialogue the dub gave him at other points, such as in episode 85).
You bring up a very interesting point there. I'm not sure if Duke knows yet about the Ring.
Hmmm. Well, I don't like the way some of the things were handled in the Pharaoh's Memories arc, specifically some of the confrontations between Atem and Thief King Bakura. In the manga those go a lot deeper. But aside from that, I prefer the anime on most other things. One of many good changes the anime made was in having Yugi and Tea look everywhere for Ryou when he goes missing on Battle Ship. In the manga, where they're really supposed to be closer than in the anime, they don't even bother to notice he's missing until sometime the next day! And when they do, it's just kind of a casual "Oh, you know, I haven't seen Bakura around today" thing. I can't remember if they even search for him in the manga. UGH.
I still love the English dub, flaws and all, which is why I use dub names. :) But I do wish they hadn't changed some of the dialogue.
The Ring might, at that. Duke wouldn't quite be able to relate to having an evil spirit around all the time, but on some level he might think of his father and his continuing influence.
...Is it totally bizarre that I just read about Duke in the manga right before you posted this?
You always write such insightful pieces about Duke, and they're usually spot on. He (and Ryou) always seemed to be at the fringe of the group. Then again, though, that seemed to be the case for almost everyone Yugi and his friends encounter. Mai, Ryou, Duke, even Serenity and Mokuba...if they're not one of the original four, they're usually the outsiders looking in. Funny how that works, sometimes.

Great job!

That's very true. The original four have a bond that just can't seem to be penetrated, even though Yugi and company try to be friendly to others.
Thank you so much!
