hair and back again

After growing my hair out for the past eight months or so it may finally be time to say goodbye to it. Partly because i) I have come to the realisation that the women in my family seem to be genetically incapable of looking good with long hair, largely because ii) it is superfreakingHOT in Singapore right now and what seems like fairly well-behaved, happy hair, will rebel about 3 seconds after I leave the air-conditioned doors of Changi Airport and become a simultaneously limp and frizzy mass and excitingly because iii) because I have secured a free haircut at Bumble & Bumble University aka their Model Project!

Bumble & Bumble is a salon in the achingly hip Meatpacking District here in NYC, and its interior is modern and bright, with gorgeous views all round. The staff, of course, are impeccably groomed. The place was full when I attended the model call last week, and I'm pleased that I got scheduled for a session so quickly. It's curiosity that's mostly driving my impulse for this - I want to experience what it's like to get a haircut at a place like this, even if it is for free.

Next Tuesday I shall willingly subject myself to the scissor blades of a stranger as he/she snips 'round layers' (whatever that means) into my hair. I think this mostly means that my hair will be shorter, more textured, and hopefully a little more hip, ha ha ha. I'm very slightly apprehensive about this cut, because I'm not quite sure what to expect, and googling the Project has brought mixed reviews, but actually, I'm more in it for the experience than anything else. Hair grows back. And goodness knows I've done everything to my hair over the last five years except throw the kitchen sink at it. Pixie short? Yes. Long, chemically-straightened? Yes. Wavy punk? Kind of.

Photos to come once the deed is done! In the meantime, I'm off to D.C. for the weekend.
