Ikea session with the girls last night - I was looking for bookshelves and more plants to feed my growing obsession. The flat seems much brighter with Mintie in it and suddenly I see potential everywhere. A fern here, a pot of ivy there. Ikea's plant section is obviously not as interesting or varied as Far East Flora, but I was intrigued by the cacti and eventually bought 3. When I got home though I understimated the prickliness factor; the way this story ends is with me in the bathroom with a pair of tweezers, pulling microscopic pins out of my hands. Obviously (or maybe not) I did not handle the cacti with my bare hands. What really got me was the plastic bag containing the cacti, which I crushed in my hands after taking the plants out. Moral of the story: handle ALL aspects of cacti with care.
Anyway, they look really nice and I'm very pleased with them. After I get back from Tokyo I'm going to work on more plants. In fact, I'm so concerned about Mintie's wellbeing that I'm going to get my dad to plant-sit for me while I'm away. He's the one with the green thumb.
