TITLE: Boyishness
PAIRING: TegoMassu
RATING: G
When NEWS was formed and every one met for the first time, Tegoshi clung to Masuda like a life-line. He was too in awe of Yamapi to do anything but stare, Ryo and Uchi were terrifying with their sharp words and hushed whispers to each other. Koyama, Shige and Kusano all knew each other and without even meaning too, stuck together. Moriuchi was just another person that Tegoshi didn't know, some one who was his senpai. And even though Masuda was a senpai too, he was Masuda, so Tegoshi didn't hesitate to grab onto his jacket sleeve or stand too close behind him.
Time passed.
Moriuchi quit. Koyama started working harder to get every one to get along. Yamapi started accepting that fact that NEWS wouldn't be going any time soon. Ryo was still intimidating, but day-by-day, Uchi was opening up to the other members, and Tegoshi figured whatever Uchi did, Ryo was soon to follow. But, Tegoshi still stayed close to Masuda at all times.
The first time he's paired up with some one besides Masuda - it happens to be Kusano - Tegoshi nearly throws a fit, purely out of terror. But it's not you, he whines to Masuda, who just laughs and pats him on the shoulder. It's Kusano, he says, everything will be fine.
And everything does turn out fine, but Tegoshi still doesn't like it. He goes out to dinner with Masuda afterwards and feels like they haven't had any time together all day, even though they were in rehearsal for 5 hours straight that very day.
Time keeps going, and Tegoshi and Masuda are still Tegoshi and Masuda, equal to Yamapi and Jin, Ryo and Uchi, Koyama and Shige, but they're different. Between the the two of them there isn't the friendly rivalry of Yamapi and Jin. No home-town brotherly relationship like Ryo and Uchi. No long standing friendship from their junior days like Koyama and Shige.
NEWS gets bigger and bigger and bigger, and Tegoshi starts getting popular. At concerts, there are more girls waving his uchiwas and on TV shows, hosts actually bother to ask him questions. The whole time, Masuda dances beside him and after the shows says, Tegoshi, you had a lot of uchiwas today! It's great! And sits next to him on the TV shows and smiles, saying nothing.
Their in a hotel room, during a concert run one night, each in their own beds. The lights are all off, but they both know the other is still awake. They don't know how they know that though.
Massu's the best, Tegoshi says.
Masuda laughs, Tegoshi is important too.
In the morning, Masuda wakes up early so he can eat a leisurely breakfast in the hotel's restuarant. Tegoshi is slow to get out of the bed, but doesn't complain about having to wake up earlier on the elevator ride down, or when Masuda takes four times longer to eat than he did, or when Masuda rests his head on Tegoshi's shoulder on the ride back up to their room.
