At 11:30am on a rare Saturday off, just as he's about to start getting hungry for lunch, Shige gets a call from Ryo. He stares at the caller ID on his cell phone, like the little machine is helping in some prank, before answering the call.
"Shige. I'm bored."
He frowns. "And I care because?"
"Ah, such a tone! What would Koyama say?"
"What do you want, Nishikido-kun?"
"I'm bored. Let's hang out. Come over to my place. We'll play video games, or watch a movie or something."
Shige debates with himself for a long moment before agreeing. "Fine," he says. "But you'd better not be pulling anything."
"Sweet," Ryo says, sounding sort of happy. "Pick up some take-out on your way over. I'm starting to get hungry." And then Ryo hangs up.
Shige glares at his phone and wonders when his life became like this.

At 12:30pm, Shige knocks on the door of Ryo's apartment, holding a bag of Katsu Curry take-out. Ryo opens the door in sweatpants and a t-shirt, looking like he just woke up.
"It's about time. I'm really hungry."
"I've had to smell it the whole way over! Think about how I feel."
Ryo takes the bag and immediately opens the top box, sighing at the contents. "Curry, really? Nothing better? I was hoping for Donburi."
"Then go get it yourself!"
The music coming over from the TV finally gets Shige's attention, and when he looks over, a sad Mario is looking back at him, asking in an atrocious Italian-accent if he wants to continue from the same point where he died.
"Which level are you having trouble with?"
"Um." Ryo takes a bite of the pork katsu. "I can't remember. I was playing last night and fell asleep in the middle of the game."
Shige has to work to stiffle a laugh.
"I think I'm going to eat this and then go back to sleep." Ryo says after a minute.
"What?! I came all this way because you said you were bored!"
"Yeah," Ryo yawns. "But it took you so long to get here. You can play Mario if you want. The noise won't bother me."
Ryo wolfs down the rest of the curry, takes a drink from a plastic bottle near the sink and meanders into his bedroom, knocking the door closed, but not with much effort because it's still partially open, and Shige can see him flop down into bed.
Mario asks him again if he'd like to restart, and Shige figures he might as well, considering he came all this way. At the very least, he can find ways to eat through all the extra Mario-lives that Ryo has been able to acculumate.
