it's days like this that make ryeowook want to give up. days when the thoughts creep up without warning and suddenly he can't remember how to breathe, how to focus, how to deal. there are so many doubts, so many questions, and so many fears that keep him from facing the problems head on. stay back, keep your head down, it'll pass. fingers curling on his thighs, against the fabric of his jeans, he reminds himself that everything he's thinking of is only a result of paranoia, that he's got nothing to worry about. but this is just another mechanism designed to keep him from seeking the answers he so desperately needs. you can ask him, but what's the point? you should trust him, trust yourself. except he is so unreadable that ryeowook has no idea what it is he's trusting in. whatever passes those lips, he has promised himself to believe. it's too bad that so little passes that he is left without faith in his own sense of the other man's thoughts and feelings. if there are feelings at all, he thinks, bleakly, and fights back an audible whimper.
the thoughts do pass, eventually, and he distracts himself easily enough as his days move on, slowly from one to the next, nearing closer and closer to the next shock of panic.

'oppa~ who's that pretty unnie with you?'
they are looking through yunho's pictures, trying to sort out the mess he's been collecting for years in a cardboard box tucked away in a corner of his closet. every now and then, when he's got a fair minute, he digs it out to take a look. but mostly it lays undisturbed. it would be still, except in two days he leaves for the dorms and he needs to know what to take along.
'hm? who?' he leans over jihye's shoulder to get a better look, his lip quirking into a slight smile. 'oh... that's jay's girlfriend.'
'i didn't know jay-sshi had a girlfriend... she's pretty. but kind of... well never mind. do you know her really well?'
yunho grins. 'sure. we're all close.'
when yunho relates the story to heechul two nights later, after they've settled as four seasons into their dorm, the older boy promises to make a visit to kwangju to set things straight.
'that means i'm taking your sister out on a date, yunho.'
'it won't work, heechul hyung. she likes boys.'
'yah!'
yunho is already running.

Life would be much easier, you think, if you never had to account for your own actions. Not just the intended ones, but all the accidents, too. Life would be easier if you never had to deal with the morning after, finding someone new in your bed, someone whose name you don't remember, someone who's decided they would like to know what's your name and would you like some breakfast? Life would be easier if you spent enough time in your own bed to remember what it looked like, because perhaps, you start to think, when your someone gets up and goes towards the direction of the bathroom but is somehow in the kitchen, you're not home at all.
