sarah put the niqab on tonight for filming and i couldnt resist getting a foto (we're both secretly terrified if monaqabas). reasonably humorous that the flash made the veil transparent....
sand storm today like no other. the sky was orange-brownish most of the day. the sun was a white disk in the sky and you could see the clouds of sand swirling in front of it. my hair is full of it and i left my window open this morning so my room is also coated with a layer of fine sand-dust. delicious.
i was asked, the other day, to move out of my current flat. i've been having problems with my room mate(s) for a while now...harlan actually called me while i was at uni a few weeks ago to inform me that i had left a pan on the stove without washing it. i had fried an egg in the morning during my rush to school and didnt get to washing it. the other day, though, (kind of understandably?) was a breaking point. i put a pot on the stove to boil water for tea, left it on and went to the shop to get some ciggs. the one across the street that i usually go to was closed so i walked a little farther. on my way back i get a call on my mobile...angry room mate yelling that the flame had blown out on my tea pot and why the hell had i left the flat with something on the stove and bla bla bla. i returned home to more yelling and didnt talk to him until two days later he calls me to tell me we "need to talk". he tells me he no longer feels safe living with me being so inconsiderate...i almost cost him his life...this and that. i wanted to tell him that the only way he could have died was if somebody lit a match, but he probably wouldn't have been poisoned...gas has a smell for a reason. i refrained, though, and told him i'd be out within a week. moving to medinat nasr in two days hour-ish commute each way to uni but still...thank god fouad has an extra room in his flat. i'm going to miss living in zamalek though (i think)...the romance of a flat on an island in the middle of the nile. tant pis.
