This afternoon I watched the European Figure Skating Championship and really want to share with you a video of the 16-year-old Russian phenom who won the ladies event. She's amazing, so in tune with her music, so fast over the ice, had a gorgeously choreographed program and skated it to near perfection. I predict she will be our Gracie Gold's biggest competition at Worlds in Boston. How she can even walk on those thin little legs, much less skate, astounds me. She's definitely a skater to watch in the future. Be sure to catch her fabulous edge slide at the four-minute mark. I've never seen it done better.

If any of you watched the US Figure Skating Championships Exhibition yesterday, you saw 14-year-old
Nathan Chen sustain a hip injury only a minute into his routine. He's now had hip surgery and will be out for the rest of the season. Such a shame because he did four perfect quad jumps in his long program -- the first skater to accomplish such a feat. It's one of the reasons I dislike seeing the men attempt such difficult jumps, especially at such a young age.
And for those of you who love figure skating at much as I do, NBC mentioned an Internet skating site called
ICENETWORK.COM and it's fantastic. It has ALL the skating events, worldwide, news, interviews, everything a skating fan could want.
Upcoming skating events include the Four Continents Figure Skating Championship February 16 - 21 in Taipei and the World Figure Skating Championships in Boston March 18 - April 3. Both will be televised by NBC.
Edit -- Afterthought. The skater from France won the men's competition and he's totally awesome. He gets better and better as the performance goes on. I've never seen a coach go to pieces like his did.
