A Sleeper Movie

Every so often a movie comes along that is excellent, but hasn't received any promotion or hype. We call them sleepers. I saw such a film today and want to recommend it. The title is Winter's Tale and it has a wonderful cast. Most are well-known, but have not-so-big roles in the movie. I think they just wanted to be a part of this delightful movie. Included are Colin Farrell, Jennifer Connelly, Jessica Brown-Findlay (Lady Sybil on Downton Abbey), Will Smith, Russell Crowe, Matt Bomer, Graham Greene, Kevin Durand, William Hurt, Eva Marie Sanit and Lucy Griffiths. The music score by Hans Zimmer is gorgeous. There is also the most beautiful white horse I've seen since Gandalf's Shadowfax.

The film has romance, fantasy, death, survival, evil, redemption, justice...something for everyone. You'll laugh, cry and cheer. I needed a box of tissues well before the end. I saw it on HBO and had been waiting for them to air it because I love Colin Farrell. I find him to be a seriously underrated actor. If you have HBO, you can watch it on HBO Go and if you have DishNetwork, it's available on DishAnywhere. If you have Netflix, the DVD is available there.

Failing any of the above, if you go to this YouTube page, there are several ways to watch the entire film. This is a wonderful movie and I encourage you to watch it if you can. A clip is posted below.

And here's a very nice interview with Colin Farrell and Jessica Brown-Findlay talking about the film.
