Wow I am so sad...
So I got home from camp today and now I am so bored/tired... :'(
The day-by-day rundown:
June 18th, 2005:
I left for Chicago and then when I got there did somethings. Walked around with the parentals and some dinner. We saw Starbucks and it made me want it really bad but that didn't happen. Then went to bed.
June 19th, 2005:
I woke up and went to Subway. Then went to UIC! I was dropped off into freedom where I was HIPAA trained and then Veronica(a roomate of mine) broke the rules by going off campus and getting ice cream. Then we were like lets go meet people. Then we ventured across the bathroom and met people. It was great fun. Then I met my MED group. Which was Hippocrates! It was such a blast. My Faculty Advisor (FA) was cool; his name was Brian. During the MED session I learned what "The Match" was and participated in a mock match. Then after all that we had a social and got to meet more people but lots of us just stole food and went to our rooms to party. That night we stayed up late talking like we knew each other for years.
June 20th, 2005:
Today, was my first full day. I had breakfast at 7 and then a MED session. After that we had a speaker (Dr. Shashin Doshi) who was awesome. He told us a lot about med school and life as a resident. After that I had another MED session and then to lunch. I had me Huma by this time. She is so cool. She lives in Dexter, MI! After lunch we had problem based learning stuff and this is when we ended up talking to Daniel just out of the blue. Then dinner and more Med Session stuff. Then I went to a speech and learned what a child life specialist was. That was nifty. Then another MED session and then we had a social. This time I didn't go, well I did but just to steel some food. After that I went up to the lounge on the 5th floor with Huma and learned how to play 45 with Daniel, Matthew, and Huma. It was kind of like Uchere. Then we played some other games and then we had to leave. Curfew STUNK!
June 21, 2005:
I had to get up at like 6 to get on the bus by 6:30 and then to Wisconsin to the Wisconsin Medical School in Milwauke. That was cool because I got to touch a brain and heart. I also learned about reflexes and other things. It was quite interesting. When we came back we had dinner and then had a short MED session and then talked to a dermatologist resident. She told us about the board exams and that was intimidating. Some of the board exam sections last 2 days. She also talked about how had the MCAT is. Then we had a social, where I went to the lounge with Huma and we watched the Pistons. I didn't really watch , though. I was talking to Daniel about stupid stories. Then we left and walked around.
June 22, 2005:
Breakfast and then MED session where we started talking about our Caucuses (medical debates). We all know how much Ashlee loves to debate. Then we had a speaker who talked to us about Public Health. Boy oh Boy that was boring. I drifted off to sleep. Then to lunch and I went with Lily to this thing called Community counseling. It was quite fun, we laughed so much about the random songs/ artists she had on her ipod. Then when her mom called she was laughing so hard she answered the phone and didn't say hello for 3 minutes. It was great. The actual place was boring though. We got there early so we went to get ice cream. After that we had dinner and then our caucus presentation. Which was quite hard. After that we had a MED session and then the social. I didn't go once again. I went and hung out with Daniel, where I wooped his ass in Speed and then hurt my hand when I slapped him in the stomach( He has a six pack).
June 23, 2005:
I went to the North Chicago VA Hospital. I got to see primary care and the ICU in the morning. During the primary care rounds I lost my vision in a room. My ears were ringing and my stomach hurt and I got tunnel vision and then it went black for like ten minutes. After that I could barely breath. I had really short breathes and stuff. After lunch I went to the mental care facilities and I saw what case management was and got to go to ANGER MANAGEMENT! I am going to clear this up for you all, it is nothing like what you see in the movies. It was so cool though! After that we got back and I was walking with Alison, Daniel, and Cheyanne. Then Alison was trying to drag me to go get food fifteen minutes before we were allowed to and so Daniel took my other arm and pulled me back towards him. Then Alison tried to do it again, so Cheyanne tried to pull me back and that didn't work because of the fact that were equally strong. Then we went to dinner and hung out. Then MED session and then 2 speakers and then another MED session. Then the social. I went to the lounge but talked with Daniel the whole time. It was fun.
June 24th, 2005:
Breakfast then another Caucus and then speeches about Organ Donation. It was very emotional. A guy talked about how he had a lung transplant and that was so emotional that I started to cry. After he spoke the mood was a little lightened and then after while we were walking out Daniel was infront of me and he just like stopped and I said Move it whore! Then 5 min later he was like if you call me a whore one more time I am going to have to rape you. That didnt scare me I called him a whore the rest of the day. That night Kristen, Radu, Daniel, and myself played pool. That was interesting. Daniel and I lost horribly because Radu was so good. Then we all walked outside and then walked around campus where eventually it was just Daniel and me together outside and he was doing somersaults in the grass and left his keys next to me so I took them and ran. Needless to say I didn't get far because he caught up really incredibly fast. So I stopped fast and changed directions where then he chased me again. Then I was having difficulties breathing after running for only like 5 minutes so we walked. Occasionally, he tried to get his keys from my hands but failed. We went back inside close to curfew and walked around the hall where he attempted to check me into the wall but failed and I caught him off guard and checked him right into his door. It was hilarious! I eventually gave him back his keys.
June 25th, 2005:
Breakfast and MED session for like an hour and then to Six Flags. That was fun. I hung out with Radu, Kristen, and Alison. It was great fun. If you want details just let me know. Then we had a Talent Show, where my FA and 2 other guy FAs sand Since you've been gone. It was hilarious.
June 26th, 2005:
Food and then learned how to suchere a wound. Then practiced on a banana. Then we went shopping in Chicago. It was great fun. I was with Huma, Megan, and Emily. That was so much fun. Megan and I couldn't stop laughing half the time. We got Brian Hot Tamale Chapstick! Ask for story details. Then we had a ice cream social. After we ate our ice cream Daniel and myself ditched Matthew. We walked and then ended up sitting on a bench and talking. That was fun. Except we were almost late for curfew because he was hasseling me to tell him something I wouldn't. Then we got yelled at for being in the halls 2 minutes before security check.
June 27th, 2005:
We had to present our projects. At the Public Health Symposium. That was quite interesting. My group didnt make it into the finals but we were happy. I sat inbetween Matt and Daniel during the finalist's presentations where I was poked the whole time by Daniel. Then I started to poke him and stuff and when he tried to poke me I would grab his fingers and bend them back but that didnt stop him. Then we had the Gala. That was so much fun. Lots of dancing!(more details, ask me) The ride home was interesting also. Then I got Daniel introuble! HEHE! Evil laugh!
June 28th, 2005:
I had a MED session and then a closing ceremony and then said my farewells. I miss them all so much! I didnt want to come home really at all! I didnt miss the parentals but some of my friends I missed. I wished it would have been longer. I am dreading going to sleep tonight because tomorrow morning I dont have to worry about getting up early or anything. That saddens me to think it is over, I miss them all so much! Well I am off! Call me tomorrow! I leave in 3 days for NY. Sooner then planned because my Grandpa was in an accident. I am so sad! Well Night! With love, Ashlee
