too late, already too late. they're her words and the arm is hers, too. it's next to his, almost touching but not, and sometimes jacob thinks that where the fuck is magnetism, their limbs should be drawn together like the rest of them. bella's showing contrast, classic we look the same so we belong togehter and jacob feels like telling her that looks mean nothing, because jacob and bella were made from each other deep down in their bones.
she stays, and he doesn't know why but he doesn't ask (she doesn't know either - he's aware of this before she is.) jacob finally got an queen sized bed. of course, there's a whole apartment surrounding that, but she's fixated on the sleeping arrangement. when bella was human and jacob's, she'd have to sleep on top of him to fit on the little twin at billy's. their nights were all waking up every half hour to reposition, three glasses of ice water a night, and skin on skin (except for jacob's shirt that looked better on bella anyway.)
bella's never missed anything more.
she has no right to be angry. when she first thinks this, of course, the language she uses is stake, but the thought of a stake (of all things) in her jake makes her shudder. she looks at his face, his black as that are all tormented like, i know this is my fault, i want you to tell me it is.
she doesn't answer with her eyes. that's either because she's never been as talented as him or because they're a pulsing red, she doesn't know. "thought you said it couldn't happen, jake."
"bella..." only he doesn't mean it, because there's no bells and no honey and she knows the difference.
