Should be possible to comment to DW with an OpenID. Have you tried that?

I have no idea what that is. If it's through Google, though, I want nothing to do with it.

Hasn't a thing to do with google. Not in a position to explain, so google/askjeeves/dogpile it. Or search the DW FAQ.

Really? It seemed like their brand of data mining. I've been seeing 'OpenID' around for awhile now, and the concept's giving me bad vibes, especially in these days of employers and so on looking around online. An author I enjoy took every single one of her fics down while she job hunts, and the more I read the harder it is to think that she was being too paranoid.

I may just get a Dreamwidth account, in case I ever want one.
