Kate and I had talked about what we wanted in small shawls. One of the must-haves was a shawl that stayed on the shoulders but was open in the front. So I started this one with a picot edge for the neckline and then did some light lacework at the top, and planned for eight evenly-placed increase lines with a split. Technically, the shawl is a nonahedron. I used the gull-wing lace pattern as the jump-off for the increases, and then at the end of the skein of yarn, started widening the lace out.
While it's cute, I think I would like to re-do this with two skeins of yarn so that I can make the lace spread further so that they touch and the whole bottom border is lace patterned.
