THE LUNAR PROJECT - September 29. 2008

Sep 23, 2008 19:56

So since Monday, September 29th is the arrival of a new moon, the two of us have taken it on ourselves to spearhead an event requiring the assemblage of people who will be involved in a very basic, but interactive experiment: the taking of a digital photo of the new moon at the same moment from various points on Earth. Luis has a one-up on me for on being Sao Paulo next week and having already miraculously puckered interest from people ranging from Tokyo to coastal Lebanon. We've decided as a starting goal to gather at least 50 partcipants. Reminders will be sent out 12 hours prior and the outcome of the experiment will be posted the next day on http://www.lunarproject.com (which will be launched this Saturday.) If this first trial succeeds, we are going to establish this as a regularly reoccurring event.

The time that we have have chosen is Monday, September 29, 11:01:00 PM (23:01:00) Eastern Standard Time. For conversion tables, visit http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc

For those of you in regions of the world where the moon has already set at the designated time, please don't exclude yourselves! Unless it wreaks havoc on your expensive equipment (in which case, we suggest that you borrow a camera from someone you don't really care about) aim your cameras instead directly at the placement of the sun. We are more interested in keeping a consistency with the spirit of recording a synchronistic "moment", less interested in showing the moon from different geographical perspectives. We will use future opportunities to time these activities appropriately to YOUR side of the world, particularly during rarer lunar occurrences such as apogees, perigees and eclipses.

So if you're interested in participating, we've made it very easy for you. Deceptively easy. Just send me a line or a blank e-mail to thelunarproject@gmail.com under the subject line: "I'M INTERESTED."

We ENCOURAGE WORD OF MOUTH. The more partakers we bring together, the longer we can hope to actually sustain this as an exciting and lasting interactive project! So please fw this to your friends, family and colleagues that might also take an interest in this endeavor!

Thanks for reading. I hope that you'll join us in this simple (but potentially extraordinary) undertaking!

Love & Other Personal Compromises,

Trystan Phillip Toole
