jongin turned over, hoping sehun wouldn’t hear how fast his heart was beating.
i.
Maybe it was the adorable eye-smile, or the bubbling laugh, or the way Sehun always smelled like strawberries after using his lip balm. Or maybe it was just Sehun, being himself with all his imperfections and flaws; nevertheless, when Jongin walked through the classroom door one day and saw Sehun smiling at him across the room, he just knew.
It had to be love.
ii.
“Sehun?”
When he heard his name, the boy stopped and turned around, leaning his right shoulder against the dance hall’s doorframe. He raised an eyebrow, inquiring look in his eyes. Jongin could feel his throat drying up.
“Sehun, I- I mean- are you in a hurry? I was just thinking that-“
“Oh come on, the café nearby closes early today, it’s Tuesday, don’t you remember?” Sehun interrupted him, a little smile rising on his lips.
Tuesday. The day of the week when the dance glass had their practice meeting. Of course it was Tuesday, how did Jongin not think of that?
Before he had the time to bang his head against the wall, Sehun suddenly stepped closer a couple of steps and took him by the hand, interlacing their fingers together and pulling Jongin with him. The older boy stumbled to his feet; there was no sign of the dancer’s digestibility or grace Jongin normally possessed. Unexpected touch had shivers go up his spine and he tried to forget the strange, warm feeling in his stomach, as he followed Sehun out of the studio.
iii.
“Sehun, are you still awake?”
“Mmhm? Is something wrong?”
“No, nothing, I just… Wanted to tell you something,” Jongin whispered. Sehun, who was lying on the bed next to him, raised his eyes and looked at Jongin. For a moment, Jongin was almost sure he was a little ray of hope in his eyes, but when he blinked it was already gone, and the tanned one was left thinking that maybe he just saw what he wanted to see.
He shook his head a little and bit his lower lip.
“Uh, it was nothing important, I already forgot,” Jongin smiled awkwardly and pulled his blanket up. It was hard to see properly in the dark but from the little he saw, Sehun looked a little disappointed, or at least Jongin thought so. Eventually, the younger one just let out a sigh and closed his eyes.
“You can tell me in the morning, maybe you’ll remember then.”
“I promise.”
Jongin turned over, hoping Sehun wouldn’t hear how fast his heart was beating.
iv.
Jongin never told and Sehun never asked.

The dance lessons were severe, especially now when the opening night was so close and their teacher had increased the number of their practicing hours to its maximum; everyone got a nervous breakdown at one point. It was only natural to be stressed and nervous, that’s what Jongin told Sehun when he found the other boy sitting alone in the dressing room after one particularly onerous lesson, cheeks wet with tears and eyes reddened from all the crying.
“It’s going to be alright, don’t worry, the performance will be sensational; you will be sensational, I know it,” Jongin tried to smile, sitting down to the bench next to Sehun and wrapping his arms around the younger one’s shoulders. “Hush, Sehun, don’t cry.”
He raised his hand and wiped the tears from Sehun’s cheeks. The boy took a deep breath, and the next moment his head was already pressed against Jongin’s shoulder and his face buried in the crook of his neck. Jongin gasped - it felt like his heart was trying to bang its way out of his chest in any minute soon - and froze in his place, trying to stay as still as he could. Sehun’s heavy breathing was settling down little by little, warm air tickling on Jongin’s sensitive skin, but he tried to ignore it; he crossed his fingers, wishing the time to stop so the moment wouldn’t have to end and they could stay like this forever.
And Jongin wished a little harder when he felt Sehun’s lips warily caressing his skin.
vi.
The sun was shining through the window and falling right on the spot where Jongin sat, making the boy blink. He tried to move a little to the right, then to the left, and even lean back on his chair, but nothing seemed to help. Jongin managed to continue for a while before the teacher eventually found it somewhat irritating and asked a girl seated next to the window to kindly close the curtains.
When Jongin was finally able to see properly what was going on, his eyes immediately focused on Sehun, who was, surprisingly, looking back at him with a little smile. The younger boy sat a few rows from him and he needed to peek over his shoulder to be able to face Jongin’s stare, but he managed to do it anyway. Jongin couldn’t help but to smirk, lowering his gaze and trying to ignore his racing heart.
They were in a class, someone could notice, someone could see-
“May I use the restroom?”
Sehun’s voice was soft but clear and all the teacher could do was to say yes because damn, it was impossible to deny anything from Sehun when he looked an angel like that, with his ruffled hair and brightly shining eyes, lips curving up slightly. Not that Jongin were staring though.
He tried to concentrate on his book, but he just ended up repeating the same sentence over and over again, never really understanding what it even said. From the corner of his eye, Jongin saw Sehun getting up and heading towards him. He didn’t dare to look up to meet his eyes, but maybe he should have done that after all: bypassing him, Sehun reached out his hand and let his beautiful fingers dance on the older boy’s arm, their skins barely even touching, making Jongin's whole body shiver-
Jongin heard the door opening and soon after that, it swung closed.
vii.
“Jongin I really need to go or I’ll be late.”
Sehun tried to free his hand from Jongin’s grip, but the older one didn’t let go.
“No, Sehun- Wait,” Jongin closed his fingers around Sehun’s wrist and spin him around: surprised yelp escaped from Sehun’s lips when he realized he was trapped between the dance studio’s wall and Jongin’s body, unable to flee anywhere.
“Just listen to me this once,” Jongin’s words were only a whisper, his voice trembling, “I need you to know.”
But instead of telling what was going on, he leaned in closer; there was a moment of hesitation, but it took only one look to Sehun’s waiting eyes to overcome it, and the next moment Jongin had already pressed his lips on Sehun’s, without any explanation whatsoever.
Jongin wasn’t sure what he had thought would happen, but he definitely hadn't excepted Sehun to kiss him back.
viii.
Sehun never got on the bus on time.
ix.
“I wish that-“
Sehun silenced Jongin with his lips.
“-you were-“
A kiss on the neck makes Jongin throw his head back, lips parting.
“-mine.”
“I already am,” Sehun whispered in Jongin’s ear, lips caressing his jaw line gently, “and I always were.”
