Absolutely typical. I honestly wonder how they thought they'd get away with it. I know some of those girls are no better than they should be, but idiots like Bulstrode have only themselves to blame. I wouldn't mind Bulstrode joining Hornby's little gaggle of tarts, but he's a Quidditch Captain, and a role model to the lower years. Thankfully Cynthia and myself can provide a balance, and prove that not every Slytherin is a libertine of the very worse kind. Such a pity that most of the other Slytherins are unwilling (unable, it seems!) to follow our example.
Cynthia's party was pleasant, however. The food was excellent, as it always is, and the dances were enjoyable. I also managed to have a few interesting conversations. Any overt feuding between Dash and Celerity was avoided, and there was no unpleasantness on view between Dolores and Hadrian's sister. My only regret was not having a chance to talk to Diggory, but he seems enchanted with Jessica Walsingham. I had thought that Black was a more likely suitor, but he spent a section of the night with Celerity. I cannot imagine that she will allow herself to be engaged again so soon, but if Black moves his attentions, then Diggory will have a very good chance indeed with Miss Walsingham. The two couples will bear watching, if all proceeds as I think it will.
I look very much forward to the Prefect Meeting on Tuesday on the Hogwarts Express. This morning I attended the Eucharist at St Alban's. I so rarely worship in the company of other wizards outside of the school year, but it is refreshing to go to sit in the Lady Chapel, robed and with wand to hand, and hear the priest preach a lesson to the wizard and witch, not to the Muggle. I am sure that the Reverend meant these words for me: "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" It gives me hope for the year to come.
