ok, maybe i'm the only one, and that's fine. but there were others last year, because i remember discussing this. our school is doing the vagina monologues deal again, and i have no problem with that. speak out against sexual assault against women, let people tell their stories, i'm all for it. but why is it ok to not only write advertisements all over the sidewalks in chalk, but to make them vulgar while you're at it? why do i have to walk to my journalism class and see "p*ssy power"? oh wait, i've seen this before. you throw an asterisk in there, and it no longer means the same thing. writing pUssy would be just plain offensive; writing that little star in there, however, makes everything just dandy. last year, i remember one that said "at tcnj, we call it a cunt" or something nasty like that. that's just beautiful. i'm glad that we cleared that up, because here i've been, calling it something else for so long... but now i realize the error of my ways, and i'll be sure to fit in to the tcnj population and call it a cunt. or, why do i have to leave and enter my building several times a day for meals and classes and see a giant depiction of a vagina on the ground? this is perfect for when people's families come, or when the ambassadors give tours of the campus, so that little brothers and sisters can ask, "mommy/daddy... what's that?" it takes a lot to offend me, and i don't throw up every time that i see this garbage. i'm not going to the president of the college and demanding that it be removed. but i do think that it's pretty ridiculous and absolute bullshit. if i was to create "the penile monologues", do you think that i could get away with this? "at tcnj, we call it a cock!" "penis power!" instead of "vagina warriors" that i saw earlier, how about "big dicked soldiers"? and i can draw a huge, anatomically correct penis, pubes and sack and all, right outside any building i please? perfect! no, wait, that would never, ever be allowed.
i love that the school thinks that this is ok... fucking hypocrites. anyone hear about what happened to that sign outside of the new library that was painted to show what the finished product looks like? did anyone know that the image had to be altered by the artist because a student complained that none of the students pictured in the drawing were minority students, students of color? first of all, what kind of douchebag would look at this thing long enough to notice that everyone in the picture was white? secondly, how could you possibly give a shit? it's going to be gone when the project is done, it's just so people know what the fucking library is going to look like! it's not meant to reflect the fact that tcnj is an integrated campus, in contrast to all of those all-white colleges in the US. oh, and don't even get me started on all-black colleges, i will really start breaking shit. but as i was saying... so not only do you think this is some life-threatening misrepresentation of your race that oppresses you in multiple ways, but you demand that it be changed so that it features more minority students? ok, so if i take a picture on campus and it gets published in some magazine or a publication that describes the college experience or details our college specifically, but it features no minority students - i have to take it again and make them replace the old one with a newer, "more accurate" photograph? that is unbelievable to me.
so getting to my point - it's ok to have slang, profane words written all over campus and actual drawings of the female reproductive organ... but it's not ok to have a drawing of a building - where hardly anyone even notices that there are students in the painting - if there are no minorities represented? so i can find novels or television shows that don't have any half-white, half-hispanic characters in it them and demand that they be re-written or re-cast to properly represent MY ethnic background? i can sue UPNor BET for having so many african american-dominated casts but no caucasians, other than those that are stereotyped as rednecks and morons? ergggggggg i hate this reverse-racism bullshit. i'm puerto rican... do you think that i'm offended by the fact that there were no hispanics on saved by the bell, or full house, or that there are more white actors in a given movie than non-whites? i'm sorry, i don't buy this bullshit. i'm not going on an affirmative action rant either, first of all because i already got it out of my system in a paper last year, and secondly because it probably helped me get into other colleges in universities. affirmative action HELPED me, but i still think it's prejudiced, reverse-racism garbage. it didn't help me get into this school though, i can tell you that for certain. but like i said, not going into it... at least not yet. maybe next time.
sorry about that whole entry. just seeing these fucking things on the ground everywhere i go pisses me off immensely. i need a cigarette and some food. peace fuckers.
