A 2-year-old Bethlehem girl was found safe with the family dog yesterday morning after nearly 100 people searched for her during the night.
Daisy Smith, who disappeared about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, was dirty, and her pink dress was muddied, said Mac Spainhour, an Indiana conservation officer. But she was in good condition, he said.
Daisy and the dog, a black Labrador retriever named Thunder, wandered away from the family's back yard near the Ohio River.
"I found the tracks, and I just followed them," Crozier said. "When I first found the girl she appeared fine, but obviously scared."
Thunder had to be calmed before anyone could get to the girl.
"The dog was a little hesitant to let me get near her," Crozier said. "After I made up to him a little bit, he let me bring her to safety."
Spainhour said the dog was to thank for the girl's well-being.
"This girl has a guardian angel," he said. "And it's the dog. He stayed with her throughout the night, and in the end he led us to her."
