I had some notion that I would break the news to people by telling them in person, but it isn't that amazing of a story anyway. The upshot is that I proposed to Erin and she said yes.
We were walking at the Arnold Arboretum a few weeks ago, and when it's getting on toward winter, there are some beautiful sights, but nothing that is "romantic" to speak of. I ended up proposing to Erin at the
Bonsai Collection, and it was incredibly awkward. She kind of didn't believe me at first, thinking I was joking. It was a sort of tearful moment, not particularly smooth or romantic like in movies, but it worked.
It's kind of strange, nothing's changed between us really except that the word "fiancée" is even more awkward than "girlfriend," and now we're more seriously thinking about a wedding, even though no date has been set. To a degree, we're mostly just trying to get our lives in gear and settle down. The wedding will probably happen some time in 2009.
