信じられなくて 信じたくなくて
I'm unable to believe, nor do I want to believe
君の中できっと僕は道化師なんでしょ
That inside your mind, you see me only as a clown
It's pathetic-he's pathetic. Words that bubble from the back of his throat only fall dry the instant he parts his lips. He can't tell Jongin how he feels, and he absolutely loathes it. Dense Jongin strolls in the practice room with two waters in hand. He flashes a tired grin towards Yixing's direction, oblivious to the slight twitch of a smile on the other's face.
"Potato chip-hyung!" The younger's deep voice resonates throughout the empty studio. He tosses a bottle of mineral water to Yixing before settling down onto the hardwood floor. "Water break. How's the waist injury coming along?"
Yixing wrings the bottlecap off and chugs half of his water. "Not good. I think I'll be crippled by the end of this week," the Hunan native replies, pressing lightly against his lower back.
"With an injury like that, you're already crippled," Jongin says smugly before slipping a dark hand under the older boy's shirt. Yixing flinches at contact, not because it hurts but because Jongin's fingers are brushing against his skin. He forgets that skinship is a thing in Korea. It takes him back to 'skinships' with his friends in Changsha-years of roughhousing, and hard punches and shoves. It was one of the peculiar parts of his past that he missed, although he didn't mind the feel of Jongin's palm gliding up and down his back.
"You dummy, you don't even have any bandages on." Jongin taps his back gently, which sends an odd jolt of pain and butterflies through Yixing's body. "Wait here, I'll go get you some."
触れてしまったの 君の温もりに
The warmth of your touch,
その笑顔で その仕草で
Your smile, and your gestures
僕が壊れてしまうから
Are going to break me
"Ah, no, Jongin-ah," Yixing declines. "I'm fine. Really. I just want to talk with you."
The last sentence goes unsaid, just like countless others. And Yixing thinks that it's starting to hurt him.
"You just said yourself that you'll probably be crippled by the end of this week," Jongin says frowning.
Yixing just shakes his head, insisting, "Nah, I'll be fine. Let's just talk."
Yixing gets his wish and they end up talking for hours-conversation weaves so carelessly and freely between the two of them, so much so that time can't even keep up. Launching off into the topic of relationships and dating isn't awkward for them anymore-they've already talked about it on several different accounts before. So when Jongin brings up the fact that Chanyeol used to date a trainee from a different company, Yixing decides to make his move.
"You know that reminds me, I was on my Baidu bar one day," He fiddles with the folds of his singlet. "and I came across some fanfiction a fan wrote about me and you."
Jongin erupts into laughter, "You're joking. What was it about?"
"Ah, nothing. Something about a love triangle between me, you and Luhan," Yixing tries to say nonchalantly; the thumping in his chest begins to race.
"Really? Does Luhan-hyung know about this?" Jongin questions, a clearly amused look on his face.
"No, he doesn't really go on the internet too much anymore," Yixng can feel his cheeks going hot. "That's weird, though, isn't it? The thought of us being together."
Jongin laughs, "Yeah. I couldn't imagine us like that. It's just not gonna happen."
Yixing's face falls. He wasn't sure what type of response he expected. He tries to muster up a chuckle-something to hide his disappointment and dejection. "Yeah... it's... improbable."
The tan Korean slings an arm over Yixing's shoulder and squeezes his bicep. Korean skinship. He leans in close, his breath warm on Yixing's ear and cheek, "See, the two of us... we're like brothers-nothing more, nothing less."
"Brothers." The word lingers in Yixing's mouth like a bitter aftertaste.
Nothing more, nothing less.
そう これが悲しい僕の末路だ
Yes, this is my sorry fate:
君に辿り着けないままで
Still being unable to reach you
A/N: *coughfriendzonedcough* Also, I wasn't sure how to translate からくり being that it's a noun and not an adjective (even though in this sense it's modifying 'clown'), so I just left it in its romanization.
