Author's note: Hi, this is my first time to actually write a fanfic and I really wanted to drop out mid-way as I didn't really have much time to write and I wasn't confident. However, I decided to finish it up, and I'm not sure if I had taken a different direction from your prompt, and sorry if I did. However, I do hope that it's readable and not entirely boring for you though? Thanks and I hope you enjoy.

It was a bright sunny afternoon. The sun rays pierced through the thick forest, and birds chirping could be heard from a distance.

Chanyeol took a deep breath and walks into the forest. He looks around at what used to be his ‘playground’ during summer holidays when he was younger, and took small steps forward. The air felt still, and it was cold, in contrary of how sunny it was. The forest wasn’t like anything it was before. It used to be warm, and welcoming.

Chanyeol made his way through with much familiarity, and finally stops when he reached a small little hut, which was surrounded by boulders.

“It’s still here,” Chanyeol speaks aloud.

The once strong-looking hut, was now old and tattered and it looked like it could give way any moment. Chanyeol stood in front of the door and stayed that way, eyes focusing on the grass he’s stepping on. He looked up, and slowly lifted his hand and place it on the door. Gently and carefully, he pushed it open.

The chairs and table were still in the same position he remembered them to be. The shelves were covered in dust, and even his coffee cup which he drank from years ago, was still in the same position, unwashed.

Chanyeol let his eyes wander, looking at the place he used to come so often, and finally laid his eyes on the piano which was located on the left side of the hut. He would play for hours back then, and especially loved the view outside the window, which was overlooking a waterfall. He walked towards the piano, nervous.

It was strange, Chanyeol thought. All of the furniture are covered in dust, but the piano on the other hand, was free of dust. Chanyeol used his index finger and hit a note. The sound was clear, crisp, and the pitch accurate. He’s taken aback that nothing about the piano changed. It was exactly the way he left it. He sits on the bench, and starts playing random notes.

“Ya! Play properly!” Chanyeol heard a familiar voice. A voice he hasn’t heard for years. His fingers froze and he started looking around. There was no one, and the only sound that could be heard was the sound of the water, from the waterfall.

“Hyung…” Chanyeol called. “Hyung….”

Tears started to form and Chanyeol couldn’t hold back his emotions. He knew the voice was from his head, his memory, but he still got up from his seat and looked around the hut and outside the window, for any chances for seeing the person he misses the most.

Disappointed, Chanyeol sat on the bench again and started crying. This time louder, and hands on his chest. His entire body started shaking, and he could feel his shirt sticking to his skin, wet, as he wiped his tears.

Barely managing to compose himself, Chanyeol let out a soft sigh.

“Hyung…do you hear me? You do, don’t you? Even though you disappeared, but you’ll still be able to hear me, right?”

“Hyung….I missed you. A lot.”

Chanyeol slowly placed his fingers on the piano keys, and takes a deep breath.

“Hyung…shall I play? Our song?”

Chanyeol started playing a tune, a special tune that only he and Kris knew.

Chanyeol still remembers the first time he met Kris. He was 10 years old, and it was his first time spending summer holidays at his Uncle’s. He was out on an errand, and he lost his way in the forest. It was late at night, and dark.

He remembers that he was crying and shouting for his uncle, when a soft voice from behind him spoke to him.

“Shhh. A man shouldn’t cry. Why would you cry?” the tall figure spoke.

Chanyeol was initially intimidated by the person, as he was really tall, but his voice was full of warmth and that quickly made Chanyeol felt reassured.

“Who…are you? Do you by any chance…know my uncle? He lives around here.” Chanyeol managed to say out, mumbling his words as he was still sobbing.

“So, you lost your way? I’ll walk you out, no worries. I’m Kris.”

“Kris? Kris Ahjusshi, I’m scared.” Chanyeol stammered, as he wiped his tears.

Kris let out a soft laugh, almost a faint one, such that if the surrounding wasn’t quiet, you wouldn’t have heard it.

“It’s okay, I’m here.” Kris reassured Chanyeol.

They walked in silence, Kris a few steps ahead of Chanyeol, constantly looking over to check if Chanyeol is following him.

“I can see it now!” Chanyeol excitedly shouts out, as he saw his uncle’s place just ahead.
“Is it better now?” Kris asked.

Chanyeol nods and laughs. “Thanks Kris Ahjusshi!”

“Now, our Chanyeol won’t cry anymore, right? A man shouldn’t cry so easily.” Kris says while bending down, so that his eye level is the same eye level as Chanyeol.

Chanyeol is taken aback. It was dark in the forest, so he couldn’t see Kris’s face, but now he could. Kris was really handsome, he thought to himself.

“I won’t cry anymore.” Chanyeol smiled and started running towards his uncle’s place. He turned and waved at Kris, and finally reached the doorstep of his uncle’s place, when a sudden thought occurred to him.

“Did I…told him my name?” Chanyeol asks aloud. He turns to ask Kris, but there was no longer anyone standing there.

Chanyeol greeted the morning with much confusion. Was last night a dream, he thought. He can't get Kris out of his mind. There was something about him, something about their encounter which made Chanyeol feel excited.

Chanyeol decides to take a walk around the forest, hoping that he could bump into Kris again. Under the blazing hot sun, he walked and walked, but there was no one. With a loud sigh, he decided to turn back before it gets dark. Just as he was about to walk off, he heard a faint sound from afar.

Oh? Chanyeol said out loud. Clearly it's a piano sound - but a piano, here?

He moves towards the sound, and as he gets nearer, the sound gets clearer and louder.

In front of his eyes were big boulders and huge trees. There was a sound of a waterfall from behind it, and the piano playing was from that direction too. Chanyeol squeezed himself through the space in between the boulders, and there it was. A warm-looking hut, directly opposite a waterfall.

He pushed opened the door of the hut, and Kris was there, seated playing the piano. There was a huge window in front of the piano, and you could see the stunning waterfall from inside the hut. The whole sight seemed like a painting which came alive.

"You do know that you're trespassing right?" Kris said as he stopped playing.

Kris stood and gestured Chanyeol to sit, while he prepares a drink for Chanyeol.

"You play really well, will you teach me too?" Chanyeol asked.

"I'm expensive, but sure."

After the drink, Chanyeol sits and learns to play the piano with Kris.

Years passed by in a blink of an eye. Visiting his Uncle every summer became a compulsory get away for Chanyeol, and his parents never understood why the young boy who seem so reluctant at first, became so eager after spending one summer there.

They dismissed it, thinking that he liked being close to nature and away from the city - which is partly true, but little did they know that Chanyeol looked forward to spending summers at his Uncle, because he could spend time with Kris.

This summer was no different. Chanyeol had prepared the things he wanted to bring along with him, a new game, some snacks and his song compositions. He loved sharing things with Kris. Every time he discovers a new game, or taste something delicious, he can’t wait for summer so that he could share those things with Kris.

However, it is those times when he and Kris play music together, that he absolutely enjoy. It’s as though their souls become one and there’s nothing which separates them. The invisible wall between them disappear and they are in their own World.

And after enjoying themselves, Chanyeol would talk about his daily life and troubles to Kris, and Kris would be there for him. Chanyeol also enjoyed those long talks he shared with Kris, and how Kris will always give him advice.

Kris was more than a friend, he was like a soul mate. He knew Chanyeol inside out, and he accepted Chanyeol for who he is. Chanyeol always appreciated how Kris never fails to make him smile. Even when Chanyeol is in a bad mood and throwing a tantrum, Kris will still stay by his side. When he makes lame jokes, or when he fools around - Kris will always play along with Chanyeol and they would have fun together.

Little did Chanyeol know - that this summer will be the last summer he’s spending with Kris.

“Hyung~” Chanyeol called out, arriving at the hut.

Kris appeared behind him, smiling, “You’re here.” He walked over to grab Chanyeol a drink while Chanyeol settles down.

“Chanyeol, we’re having a forest spirit festival tonight, you want to come along?” Kris asked.

Chanyeol looked confused, “What kind of festival is that?”

“It’s where all the forest spirits would gather, and we would sing and dance. It’s like a normal festival, just that, we’re not humans.”

Chanyeol goes wide-eyed, finding it interesting, “Sure! It’s okay for me to go? I am human after all.”

“It will be fine. Just stick by me, so that I can warn the other spirits that you’re not human, so that they do not accidently touch you” Kris assures him.

Chanyeol is excited, yet worried. He knew that forest spirits would disappear upon contact with a human, and the least he wanted to do is to harm those spirits.

He does however find this utterly ridiculous, because for the past few years, he wanted to touch Kris but held back as it would cause Kris to be gone forever.

Over the years, his feelings for Kris grew - and he always wanted more of Kris. He wanted to know how Kris skin felt - Was it soft? Smooth? Warm? Cold? He wanted to touch Kris’s face, taste his lips and just hug Kris.

“Chanyeol!”

Chanyeol jolted out of his own thoughts at the sound of Kris calling him.

“Let’s go play our music. Let’s do it outside today, instead of playing the piano here.” Kris said, pointing at the guitar Chanyeol had brought with him.

Chanyeol nodded, and they both walked to their usual spot in the forest.

They sat opposite each other, on a tree trunk, which was huge enough to hold their weight. Chanyeol begin to strum his guitar and Kris started to rap. Soon after, Chanyeol joins and sings along. In no time, both of them have entered into their own World, both enjoying each other’s company.

The sun shone on Chanyeol’s face, and Kris looked at him fondly. His deep voice had always made Kris felt butterflies in his stomach, and he loved how Chanyeol looks every time he strums his guitar and sing.

Beads of sweat slowly fall from Chanyeol’s face, from the heat, and Kris wanted to wipe it off so much. He knew that Chanyeol liked him, and he likes Chanyeol too - but both of them struggle to hide these feelings as they know they couldn’t do anything beyond looking.

He could only look at how charming Chanyeol is, how his voice sounded so deep and sexy and how it would be perfect to hear it up close in his ears. Chanyeol has been building up his body, and Kris wanted to touch his chest and arms badly, but can’t.

Chanyeol smiled, noticing that Kris was looking at him. Kris felt a pang in his stomach. Chanyeol’s smile always drives him crazy, and it doesn’t help it that Chanyeol hardly have any other expressions, except for being all happy and smiling.

Chanyeol felt it too. He loved how Kris would stare at him as he sing and play, but they know that there is always a wall between them.

The festival has started and Chanyeol is sticking beside Kris, though not touching, to ensure the safety of the other spirits.

It was beautiful. It was clearly near midnight, but the forest seemed so bright. There were a lot of forest spirits around, and they all looked exactly like a human. Chanyeol’s mouth was open the whole time, gasping at how pretty the whole festival was, and Kris was laughing beside him.

“Can humans actually see this festival going on? I mean - the forest is so bright and there is music and all…” Chanyeol asked, still amazed.

“No one really lives around here, expect your uncle, and it’s too late at night for people to wander around in the forest. They’re not you, you know?” Kris laughed.

Chanyeol laughed, remembering the day he first met Kris.

The night seems longer than usual. Chanyeol and Kris walked around, eat, joked, laughed - and at the same time, both of them struggle with their feelings for each other.

“Watch out!” They heard a spirit called out.

They turned, and before they had time to look, someone bumped into Kris, and he fell on the ground.

“Are you okay?” Chanyeol asked, looking at Kris, before turning to see who bumped into him.

Oh? Chanyeol looked at the familiar back, who was running off. “That……” Chanyeol voice trails off, his face turned white, realising what had bumped into Kris, was a human.

Chanyeol looked at Kris, who was now standing, looking puzzled. “Hyung…. That guy…. That guy….” Chanyeol stammered.

“He’s human. I know.” Kris answered, unsure of what to do. “I guess…. There are humans who wander in the forest at night too.”

Chanyeol started to panic and the thought of Kris disappearing forever makes him desperate to find measures to save Kris.

By this time, the other spirits had gathered around Kris, and they spoke softly to him, while Kris nods silently. The whole discussion is driving Chanyeol crazy, because he cannot be a part of that discussion. He has no idea what is going to happen to Kris.

The spirits left, and the festival was cut short. The lights disappeared, the music went off and soon, there wasn’t anyone left in the forest except for the two of them.

“Chanyeol-ah….” Kris called out carefully.

“I don’t think I have much time left. Stay beside me.” Kris managed to say out.

Chanyeol couldn’t believe what he’s hearing. He had feared this day the most - what if someone accidently touches Kris while he was away, what if Kris disappeared before summer - and now it’s really happening.

“Hyung….Kris Hyung…… isn’t there any other way?” Chanyeol started to cry, choking on his own saliva. “Where will you go? Where can I see you again?” Chanyeol started to scream, unintentionally.

Kris looked at Chanyeol and moves a step closer. He look at his own hands and open his arm wide, before moving forward, and hugs Chanyeol tight. Chanyeol is taken aback by the sudden contact, but Kris held him close, preventing Chanyeol from moving away.

“Hyung…”

“Chanyeol-ah… they said I won’t have much time left. However, before my time is up, I want to be with you. Stay with me.” Kris said, still hugging Chanyeol.

Chanyeol wipes his tears and smiles, “Then…shall we go to our usual spot and play music?”

Kris finally break away from Chanyeol and smile. They walk to their usual spot, holding hands, now that it no longer matters.

Chanyeol picked up his guitar and started singing, while playing. Kris is no longer seated opposite him. They were sitting side by side, looking at each other.

Kris wished that this moment could last forever. Chanyeol looked more charming than ever, and he was captivated by Chanyeol all over again. He lifted his hand over Chanyeol’s head and hesitated. It was a scene he had imagine thousands of time.

He slowly let his fingers run through Chanyeol’s hair and moved them to touch Chanyeol’s face.

“You….are really good looking.”

Chanyeol stops playing and puts the guitar aside.

“Hyung…you know that I love you, right? You are the best thing which ever happened in my life.” Chanyeol said, and started sobbing again.

“Shh.” Kris hushed him, putting his finger on Chanyeol lips.

“Chanyeol-ah… let’s be one tonight.”

Chanyeol tilts his head to one side, wondering if Kris meant what he thought it meant.

“Even if I disappear, I want to be one with you. Not just being one while playing music.” Kris said, hesitant.

“Will it be okay?” Chanyeol asked. Kris nodded, smiling.

Chanyeol moved closer to Kris, so close that the tip of their noses are touching. He leaned in closer, kissing Kris. His hands lifted up Kris legs, so that his legs would wrap around Chanyeol’s waist. Kris lips tasted sweet. He wanted more.

Kris could barely believe what is happening. All those pent up emotions they had for each other, their desire to want each other.

Kris let Chanyeol look control over him. He could feel Chanyeol hands moving underneath his shirt, rubbing his chest. He tries to look at where else Chanyeol’s hand would move, but Chanyeol pulled him even closer and sucked his tongue.

He almost thought he was going to suffocate, but Chanyeol slowly moved his lips to Kris’s neck and started licking and sucking. Kris felt warm all over and he wanted more. He placed his hands on Chanyeol’s chest and tried pulling his shirt off.

A sense of urgency came to them, and soon they both took each other’s clothes off. Kris is now lying on the ground, and Chanyeol above him. Chanyeol started breathing in Kris’s ears and Kris pulled Chanyeol down so that he is lying completely flat above him.

He opened his legs, getting ready to become one with Chanyeol, and before he knew it, Chanyeol was inside of him. Chanyeol moved in and out, enjoying their bittersweet experience in being one.

Kris started moaning, and Chanyeol was worried if it was time for him to go, when Kris managed to blurt out that he wanted more. Chanyeol moved in a little faster and deeper and he loved the fact that they are both enjoying this.

Chanyeol let Kris hands roam around his body as he slowly moved in for another kiss, while still being inside of Kris. He noticed Kris was actually starting to tear up.

Chanyeol pulled away, but Kris held him close.

“It’s alright. It’s my last night, and I’m just so happy that I’m with you. I always wanted to become one with you, but we could never be. Now that this happened, honestly, I don’t have regrets. At least, we became one.”

Chanyeol started crying again. He doesn’t know what to feel - he wants Kris to be with him always, but yet finally being able to touch and feel Kris, he can’t deny that a part of him is happy as well.

“Chanyeol-ah… I love you. Forever.”

“Me too…and thank you…for everything. I’ll always remember you.” With that, Chanyeol moves in again, and they spent the night in each other’s arm.

When morning comes, Kris is no longer there. Only Chanyeol is left in the woods alone, and the familiar forest suddenly seemed like a foreign place to him.

Chanyeol strummed his guitar and sang one last time, holding back his tears - knowing that he probably won’t be returning for the summers ahead, for a long long time.
