A bit ago I was standing in my supervisor's office (at the library) while she looked for an open computer for me to use, and to amuse myself while I waited I started investigating the cart of children's books I was standing next to. One of the books I picked up was "Oddballs" by William Sleator. Here's what it says on the back:

Meet Bill, the mastermind oldest brother who runs the show; Vicky, the only sister, who loves to dye herself and her friends purple with grape juice; and, finally, Danny and Tycho, whose sibling rivalry leads them to a very strange experiment with hypnosis. They are the Sleators - one of the strangest, and funniest, families you'll ever meet!

For a moment the words "Danny" and "Sleator" wandered through my mind in much the way "yellow" and "bulldozer" did through Arthur Dent's, until I realized why I knew that name. Yes, it is in fact that Danny Sleator, the CS professor at CMU.  In fact, William Sleator has a homepage at cs.cmu ;)  It's not every day you find a computer science professor in a children's book!
