Hey, look who it is. Me! I have been virtually MIA for a little while, what with finals, attending the low residency program stuff at school, driving back to LA, and of course the holidays. Also, I can't seem to concentrate on anything lately. It's really annoying because I'm still really busy, but now I have all these reasons for distraction, such as driving around town Christmas shopping with Rock and Alice. Here's what I haven't done enough of lately:
- Work on the HBC.
- Read Lon's thesis (though I have started-- I just haven't been able to concentrate enough to give it my full attention, which is what it deserves because he's paying me).
- Read Julia's portfolio stuff (which I also have started and deserves my full attention, but she's not paying me).
- Read books for my lit class next quarter.
- Read more books in general.
- Write my play.
- Rewrite my short story.
- Write my novel(s).
- Write in general.
This, as you can plainly see, is bad news for productivity. I know that I ought to relax a little because it's the holidays, but instead of feeling relaxed, I feel stagnant and brain dead. Not good.
I did, however, have a lovely evening out with Kyle, Betsy, and Rex on Saturday. Kyle and I drew names for the HBC contest. After that, the four of us went out to Father's Office for dinner (I had a peach cider there that was more fruity carbonated drink than alcoholic beverage) and then met up with Ryan to see
Yes Man. Kyle, Betsy, and I are fierce fans of the book (which is my idea of a great no-brains-necessary read) so this could have been a disaster for us, but it was an amusing, feel-good sort of movie-- not a pinnacle of movie making or screenwriting but pleasantly diverting. It was also a subtle love letter to Los Angeles, I felt, what with the many settings they used (Elysian Park, Griffith Park Observatory, the Hollywood Bowl, Spaceland)-- sort of adding for me a sort of dreamy, fantasy quality to the mix. The best part, though? Spotting Danny Wallace (the author of Yes Man) in the movie. I bet Betsy, Kyle, and I were the only people in the theater who could (though Kyle didn't notice him until Betsy and I pointed him out). Good times.
Oh hey, I didn't even mention that I saw the Twilight movie! I'm not going to go into it now because I am considering writing about it for a new blog I want to set up that is more public-- a blog for Yennie the writer rather than Yennie the...er, dork-- but I will say this about it: COMEDY! Seriously, such comedy! Woo...
Anyway, hope you all are having a wonderful Christmas or whatever other holiday you celebrate.
