fall back

The time changed. It is now dark at 5:30. Late fall has definitely set in here in Portland, and winter is on its way. All the leaves are falling, and and the rain is coming. It gets dark in florida around 5:30 eventually. But last year, as I was looking at the sun charts out of curiosity, I noticed that eventually it will get dark at 4:30 and even 4. wow. So we get to hibernate this year. I will be hibernating.

anton and i both have our bikes now. we road around the neighborhood, and even on the close busy street that has a bike lane. to start getting used to riding with cars. its a little scary, but the bike lane makes a big difference, and doesnt make me feel like im going to die all the time. just some times. next weekend i think we are going to go across the bridge and downtown on our bikes.

i am making pumpkin bread and tea for samhain. i got all my stuff this weekend. and we got candy to throw at kids from our balcony for trick or treating. the whole neigborhood is decked out, so im guessing that we might have a few stop through.

i am almost finished with the 2nd mitten of a pair of fingerless mittens that have a flap to put over your fingers to keep them warm. and im balling the alpaca wool i got at the flock and fiber festival to make into a scarf. i have lots of scarves, but im finding that they are florida scarves, and dont actually work for the northwest cold. So im in the process of working through making myself knitwear that actually works for this cold. the cool thing is, that I actually get to use this stuff now. I need it. I went out today without a jacket and was sad. Ive gone out at night all this week with no less than a hat and scarf. thats exciting. i have ideas for little xmas presents that are quick and easy, and dont involve months of working on a blanket or anything, that i dont have time for.

the crunch of fall leaves on the pavement is also invigorating. eventually leaves will fall in florida, but they dont turn colors, and they dont get crunchy.
