Monica Prus: Designer and Messenger
We had to send something to a client today and instead of calling a bike messenger they sent me to walk the four blocks and deliver it. Okay, that made me feel very much like the intern and not so much like the designer, BUT it was great. It's that breezy kind of hot that's warm but does not choke you and I wore sensible heels, so that was alright. It was great though, because it just was a nice reminder in the middle of the day that yes, indeed, I do work in the heart of this huge city. Over there, yup, Art Institute... and there's Daley Plaza, and the oriental theater, and the Sears Tower up above. Uh huh. I work here. And the building I went into? Gorgeous and old. It had bronze lions protruding from the walls and ceiling and mosaics of pioneers on the ceiling. It was like something out of The Great Gatsby. (that's why I read that book, so I could make odd references to it later) So I delivered this package filled with my work to the prestigious MacArthur Foundation on the 12th floor. I'm not even sure what they do but I know they give lots of money and I've heart their award compared to the Nobel Prize. I think I'll Wiki them later.

This city still has so much magic for me. I imagine that eventually it will ware off, but man, I don't want it to! Not ever. I love getting a thrill out of skyscrapers, heels, collared shirts, and elevators with classical music. I at least hope I love the city till I'm like... 40... at least. :D
