My wittle baby sister turned 20 last week. (Translation: I'm old.) For her birthday she received the first copy of the Yacht Rock mix I've been working on for awhile. I presented it at her party Saturday, amid 50 some college sophomores and a keg of Yuengling. The CD went in, and the speakers started blasting the first track, Kenny Loggin's "This Is It." The song lasted all of sixty seconds before some kid in a Yankees baseball cap turned it off and replaced it with techno. Yes, it is guilty pleasure music, and I'm sure Katy loves the CD, but it cracks me up to think of the boring nature of the crowd that couldn't handle Kenny Loggins.
Last night at 4:00 AM I snapped my fingers in remembering that my parent's 35th wedding anniversary is coming up in a little over a month. Leave it to my parents to get married exactly 35 years before a terrible recession in which their daughters can't really afford the Anniversary Party of their dreams, but damnit if I'm not going to try, at least. Ideally there'd be a bluegrass band, a replication of their wedding cake, and a caterer, but if we can settle for some veggie trays from Costco and a keg, I suppose we'll make do. I hope I'll be in a better position for a 50th anniversary blowout.
